Planet Ocean 8900 43.5 vs other watches

I alternate between a 36 mm Rolex and the 45.5 mm Planet Ocean Chrono in stainless. Both fit comfortably for me. This strikes me as highly subjective. If lume matters, look at the PO series. If weight matters, consider titanium, or a traditional 3 dial Speedy in 42 mm on a strap. Also good for dress shirt cuffs.

Pretty close to going for this watch. The build quality is staggering and the dial gives a real sense of depth. It's a watch that could be worn daily and take a fair amount of beating. I have noticed with the black model the silver on the dial really pops allowing this piece to be a dress watch. Over all its a fantastic well made watch.

This is exactly why trying on a watch before buying it will prevent buyers remorse.

I'll know soon enough how the PO 8900 compares to other watches.. Ordered this from an AD today and can hardly wait to experience that new luxury watch smell. Can't beat factory-fresh. icon_biggrin.gif It was just a bit more expensive than grey market and similar to a trusted forum seller with AD warranty.

It took a while to make the decision and also glad I can now move on with my life instead of checking grey market dealer, eBay and other sites for the best model and price ten times a day. Just hoping it is everything I expect it to be.

Now just waiting for the UPS truck tomorrow..

If thickness is your main concern instead of diameter. I’d recommend the older 2500 PO. I put mine on a rubber strap and it’s even lighter.

I've own varios watches from 40mm Submariner and GMT, 41MM Seamaster and Aquaracer, 45.5mm Planet Ocean which I traded for a 43.5mm PO and it's my favorite watch, and most of it is for its size 43mm for me is the sweet spot

I have medium/small wrists and have no problem with the current 43.5 PO GMT.

I’ve got a near original 19 yo 300m Pro Diver which does look much smaller but I now prefer the PO much more.

This picture is a bit too close up as I was more interested in the watch but I think it wears very well. I’ve hat lots of compliments and questions abou this PO more than the Diver 300 did when new.

I received my PO today and I can say my worrying about the size was all for nothing. I sold my 43.5mm Aquis but the PO also looks smaller on the wrist. The extra height is a non-issue as well, I don't even notice it without another watch next to it.

Most pictures you see are close-ups and often distorted because of the wide-angle lens of most phones. When looking at the my wrist at a normal distance, it looks just right.

Congrats on your new purchase! You raise a good point about distortion & perspective from all these cell phone pics from close range.

My first watch was a 39mm Explorer, and it's funny to look back & recall how worried I was about it's size. My PO GMT gains less than 15 seconds/month, I couldn't be more pleased

I’m having same dilemma. I tried it on and it did not wear large. My issue was the shiny-ness. Don’t know if it was just the lights at AD, but I have read more than a few people complaining about that as well. I recently saw the white dial / orange bezel variant of the 8900. That looked a bit more muted and little unique. Any thoughts you can share about how your watch has fared through this year ?
Congrats , it looks great.
Thank you

After having a fleet of black dialed watches, that white/orange version looks amazing!

If you go to YouTube and search Bruce Williams, he does a great review of the orange/white PO. i thought you might like to watch it. He really liked it

I had the same reaction when I saw the PO at an AD for the first time. Very bright indoor lighting does make it look very shiny. Bright sunlight also make it pretty shiny as well but that's the case with most watches.

The PO case and bracelet are mostly brushed though and the reflective dial and bezel give it a bit of luxury feel in most other light. But it certainly isn't blingy or in your face like some other swiss luxury watches.

Many pictures of mine in many different indoor/outdoor light.
