This 168.005 just popped up from a Japanese eBay seller. Has anyone seen this variant of the minute markers, with a dot at the 5-minute marks? I'm no expert, but the dial looks pretty original to me in other ways.

I’ve not seen that variant and combined with the wonky star in particular leads me to believe it’s a redial. I could be wrong though.

There are variants with round dots, but this one is a redial. Bad spacing of "Swiss Made" and "ChronometRE" are clear markers.

Aren’t there plenty of Chronometre dials but prior to this reference?

Sure, in the fifties it was the most common way to write it.

An admin from a Facebook watch group told me that "ter" or "tre" depends on where Omega sold the watch.

Have you asked him in what country "Swiss Made" is spelled with capital Ts at the beginning and the end of the word?

No, I have not, because I quit that group right after that. 😁
