And much respect for the guys/gals that work the flight deck. Very dangerous place when fully loaded with an entire airwing. Whenever I walked for my hop, I plotted the shortest route from the ready room to my jet. Too many things trying to kill me. And the grapes, yellow shirts, ordies, plane captains, etc... were up there 18 hours a day. BZ!

Here is a pic of me from ~1988 when I was a plane captain. It was such a rush working on the flight deck. If you look hard enough you can see my name/rank and home town on the side the plane. 馃榾

@Taddyangle , @river rat , @corn18 , @Mad Dog , and many others.

Here's some great footage of RAS and flight deck ops as well as some VERTREP footage.

Happy memories guys?

PS: Ignore the photoshopped C17, even USN Aviators wouldn't let one of those near their private airstrip 馃榿.

Cool video. During vertrep the helicopter never lands it hoovers over the load. The strap set up has a plastic tube setup like PVC pipe with a loop out of the end to hook on the helicopter it's long enough so to poor guy who has to hook it don't get hit by the rotor blades also if I remember it has some type of grounding wire for static electricity so the man hooking the load up don't get electrocuted a dangerous job. Was any one here with the USS kitty hawk battle group in 1984 off the coast of Korea when it ran over a Russian victor class sub best thing I ever saw it had to be towed back to Russia we are weak in that department now. We had to supply fuel to two US Navy frigates that had to follow the Russian tow back to Russia was snowing when we did the unrep. Link about the collision below

Love it.

Gotta love the SKX, too. It's on my wrist right now.
