share UR wrist watch paired with a PERLON STRAP ..... aka NYLON 6

Perlon straps peaked in popularity in the 1960’s and 70’s.

Ordinary nylon is made by taking materials and condensing them together to form solid fibers that are then woven together to make the finished fabric. Nylon 6 [ perlon ] is made by linking together the fibres into a tight [locked] long chain. This method makes Perlon more flexible than other types of nylon. It also enhances the tensile strength of the material without adding extra weight . The end result, it takes more force to rip a piece of Nylon 6 apart than nylon NATO bands of equal quality. Perlon offers very good breathability and durability, very abrasion resistant, so it rarely fray from continued use. It dries quickly and does not stretch when wet.

Vintage Perlon Mesh Military Diver strap
    [1960's out of production model]
    • by: EULIT
    • made in W. Germany
Est. 1924, Eulit is the original creators of the classic Perlon timepiece straps, the weaves featured in their straps simply cannot be copied .... IMHO.

Perlon straps... the enemy of metal casebacks.

If you use these regularly, put some film protection between the case and the strap or the weave pattern will scratch itself into the metal after a while.

Care to clarify? You mean the strap can scratch the side of the case/lugs or the base of the case? And why is that

It does scratch the caseback after a while: the scratches mirror the weave pattern, you can easily spot if a watch was worn with a perlon for a long time. How long does it take, I don't know.

I use those red line plastic sticker things. You can get those from Amazon.

Not very long. I bought a couple of perlon straps from Crown and Buckle last year and the three divers I’ve worn them on all had mild wear patterns on them after only a few weeks of use.

Luckily I don’t really give a rat’s ass about the back of a diver... they were all bought as tool watches, so let them wear.

Great straps, very light and comfortable. I’ll be buying more just for the colour variety, because they don’t seem to wear out very quickly.

Indeed, they don't wear out much and may outlive the watches. But they tend to pick up dirt and sweat, like NATOs.

I don't have any problem with this kind of use : a disposable cheap strap on a disposable tool, that is very much OK with me. But seeing those straps on "nice" watches (a 50c strap on 5-10k Rolexes ::facepalm2::) or on collectible old ones makes me cringe a little, knowing what they do to the metal case!

When they get dirty you just check them in the wash, they clean up well.

Just remember to take the watch off, the spin cycle can be a bitch!
