Peculiar Caseback - Did someone remove an inscription?

I was going to buy this watch, it's expensive but I just like C-Case's so much, however, at first I thought someone just brushed the caseback while they shouldn't - because normally they are not brushed

However, looking at it twice, and being initially puzzled by the depth - I wonder if there was originally an inscription on this watch, and someone removed it by excessively sanding it?

This is all I have to go on:

The logo should be below the caseback level, but it looks like it's now staying above that level?

Looks like it was turned on a lathe. Could be to remove an inscription, or just to clean up tool marks.

I think it's actually a reflection, looking at the bottom edge it looks flush to me.

It appears normal to me. If you search Omega forums for C-Case constellation you will find many threads and some with photos of the case backs. Depending on the year the one you describe could be correct to the watch. Very cool classic Omegas.

I was assuming that the OP had seen the watch in person, but apparently not.

Some inscriptions are cool, happy they kept this one, as one of the reasons I bought it.

Looks fine to me, the engraving from that era tends be quite deep using the tools they used back then so removing them has to go pretty deep, I’ve had a couple that have had it removed and they look a bit wonky still. If you used a lathe you’d be removing a fair bit of metal to erase it completely.

That’s been re-turned, probably not to remove an engraving, but to make it look like a factory turn.

You can see towards the top where it knocked down a ding. Plus all the micro-scratches have been polished around it and the deeper ones were knocked down a bit. This has been dressed up for sale.
