@Spacefruit if it's about charges try calling them up. first time I used them as a seller I got an unexpected charge on top of the "standard" % for recovering finds as the person paying me used a credit card. Not sure if it was my ignorance or their mistake but PayPal refunded me the charge.

PayPal's customer service model is especially designed to leave one feeling skewered.

What with ebay and paypal charges its virtually pointless selling anything anymore. I stockpile everything i want to sell until ebay offer me some sort of selling fee deal (which they do) Cant do anything about paypal though..... and the feckers want to hold onto your money for ages.

It's the trend where everybody wants to recover the fees charged by CC companies to use their services...I guess PayPal is no exception.
When I travel stateside, gas stations charge me extra if I use a CC to pay for gas as well..

    Hi everyone...
I try to this of Paypal as one of many tools in my arsenal of acquisition ( or enabling acquisition) .

just like other online sources of goods,,,,

Just like any tool , you need to understand how and when to use it.

Like a Lawn mower ( another tool ) , if used incorrectly you might loose a foot .

The real question how do you mitigate Risk ?

    Anyone?

    Good Hunting

    Bill Sohne

PS on the topic of selling... it sucks , I hardly sell on the forums ... basically I sell to people I know at this point as this hobby has lost alot of its " your word is your bond stuff...."

Personally ... Pay Pal has been good to me and mitigates risk (so does buying the seller). I've had no problems as a buyer and am happy to plus up to cover the seller fees. Plus it gives me a record of my purchases to use for insurance purposes. Their customer service folks were very helpful when I've had a question.

Any business that is a near monopoly can be as rotten as they want with minimal consequence.

I was told it was due to unusual account activity. Funnily enough it was when I started selling watches.

    Pointless???

Then why are millions using it?
You are paying fees to get a worldwide audience for your product.
you get what you pay for. You could always post your ad on a telephone pole.

I understand that part, it was just a bit hard to swallow when they hiked the fees to 10% back in 2012 or whenever it was

That's eBay. Paypal has nothing to do with who does or doesn't see your watch. They just skim their share (and apparently then 'sum' if you'll pardon the pun).

Truth be told I have more of a feud with eBay and have grudgingly accepted Paypal despite it's flaws and biases. I'll stop right there though because I'm not exactly a fan of either organization.

I understrand, but I was replying to this comment:
"What with ebay and paypal charges its virtually pointless selling anything anymore."

PayPal charges me 2.6%...a reasonable fee for the benefits it offers.
Ive been using both PayPal and Ebay for over 20 years, and combininbed with some common sense...ive never once been scammed thanks to the protection both afford.

BTW- the fees PayPal charges are no different than any credit card charges.
