I am away, traveling, only my photos to remind me..... I happen to be a patina junkie, I like dials coloured by passing time. I do half expect someone to come along one day and tell me they made all these brown dials in Vietnam with a bit of baking soda, but in the meantime I shall enjoy them.
Is there any scientific explanation for why some dial turn brown.........'tropical', so I assume it relates to humidity and temperature. It would seem to be a defect in materials as far as Omega would be concerned I would think.
A more thorough explanation will come up shortly but I think it is due to faulty batches of paint, hence why watches within certain serial ranges are more likely to have a brown dial, such as 2911xxxx.
Hhhmmmm that's interesting. I wonder how soon after production discolouration of the dials was observed and how many were replaced during service (quite a few I would imagine).
So you mean you can scrape all that brown muck off, re-paint and restore the dial to its former glory
