Hi, just wondering if the watchmakers on this forum have ever seen wear on the pallet fork pinions (say a modern valjoix 7750)?
The reason I ask is that the ETA 7750 Teck sheet says not to oil the pallet pinions (I guess it reduces the amplitude too much) but would that eventually lead to the pinions to wear out?
Has anyone changed the pallet fork on a 7750 due to wear?
Is this something you look for specifically during a service as it is not oiled?
I look forward to your replies...

Generally speaking you won't find a tech guide that calls for oil on the pallet fork pivots. The drag added from the oil would not be a good thing.

I check the pivots on every watch I service - wear is extremely rare there in my experience.

Of course there are those who think they should be oiled, in particular on large pocket watches. There might even be a brand that says to oil them on a tech guide somewhere (I recall someone saying Seiko recommends this on some calibers maybe??) but generally it's not done.

    Cheers, Al
