I have recently taken a liking to the Calatrava Longines of the 50s but there is one thing that bothers me: many of those for sale lack the "Swiss Made" mention on the dial. According to my research, I had been led to believe that Longines started using the Swiss Made mention on the dials for every Switzerland-sourced case in the late 40s. So, why are there so many oversized 50s Longines out there without the Swiss Made mention? Surely, these can't all be redials? Still, it would be nice to know what you guys think about it. http://www.lorologiese.com/us/longi...er-seconds-steel-watch-ref-6334-cal-27ms.html This one has a funny seconds hand: http://www.timelyclassics.com/portal/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=399 And more:: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VTGE-LONGIN...-WATCH-1956-/162150045575?hash=item25c0e55787Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network http://www.ebay.com/itm/Orologio-LO...207462?hash=item2a4b5ff9a6:g:iggAAOSwxYxUyk3IPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Here we go with "Calatrava" talk. What makes these watches calatravas? Ok, first thing's first: Your research has led you down a wrong path. Not all Longines from this period had "Swiss" or "Swiss made". #2 and #5 are definitely redials. Not commenting on the others yet. #4 doesn't have a weird seconds hand. What you're seeing is the tail of a seconds hand. The main part has snapped off.
Those with limited budgets might want to consider this lovely Timex Calatrava. Think of it as a "Starter Calatrava".
Or this nice ladies' Timex Tank: The point we're making that there is no such thing as a Longines "Calatrava", as the model name is trademarked by Patek Philippe. gatorcpa
There are a good number of Timex options out there. Don't buy expecting any increase in value and if they break you won't get your money back fixing one but that didn't stop me from fixing one for sentimental reasons. Despite that you can grab some attractive ones and enjoy wearing them and ain't that really the point?
