Would be grateful if one of you Omega experts could help me identify this oversize case, which apparently is an unusual Seamaster..

The case's dimensions are 48 mm (excluding tube) x 51 mm (lug-to-lug) x 14 mm thick (including glass)

The inside case back is signed:

    BREVET+ 472716
    3 - 70

472716 is an Omega Seamaser patent, and this same exact signature (but with different ref. numbers than 3-70) appears in several Seamaster models...

    Thanks.

    Friendly regards

OP states that the serial number falls under Omega's patent. However, I've never seen this, and it is highly unlikely that it is an OEM part.

Googling BREVET +472716 yields three Omega Seamaster hits out of six on the top page (the others referring to a Canadian patent):

On page 2 of the search five out of the ten hits also refer to Omega Seamasters... and it continues as one moves down to page 3, etc, but doesn't show any with a case like this one. That's why I turned to the forum :)

Not a patent lawyer but does the patent refer to the technology used in the case or the case design itself? The 4 cases shown in the various links, look nothing like the OP. As @fjf posted, it's extremely odd that there's no Omega anywhere or even a reference number.

Yes, my experience is that, a patent N° inscribed in a case back refers to some aspect relative to the case, often the seal whether it's at the bezel, case back or crown...

Unless there is a long forgotten Omega model out there, at 48mm, the only Omega that would come close would be a Ploprof, and even I can tell that it ain't a Ploprof case......:)

I don't think Omega ever used a tetrakaidecagonal caseback.

    Maybe the "P" word?

PS: And the patent may not be Omega, it could well be one of their casemakers, of which there were quite a few.
