Overnight watch storage?

Sideways on the night stand in a leather tray, resting delicately on the crown... or on your wrist (yes, I know, many people will balk at this.... but I love being able to tell time anytime I wake up!).
Wow...Totally opposite of what I was taught decades ago by my Uncle Art, an Omega AD and a Patek trained watchmaker. I take turns wearing a stainless steel Speedmaster or SMP300 for my everyday "beater". I leave either one face up on my night stand. In the morning, depending on which one I'm wearing I give it a couple of shakes, a couple of back winds then pit it on my wrist. Never any problems or any issues with spot on timekeeping.

Into a drawer in the bedside table; drawer is padded with felt on the sides, and with sponge on the bottom, so watch does not get scratched.
Not a bad idea at all.

Watch box.

I take off my watch, and put in on top of the watch box for the night. Not really worth the effort to put it inside snugged around a pillow.

I think I'd also risk forgetting to put it on if too far out of sight when dozy in the morning.

My watches generally stay on my wrist at night unless I am wearing one of the two that have radium. Those are removed and go back into the case that holds my watches.

Me as well. I have a box for my JLC that has a soft suede top, so whatever watch I’m wearing goes on top of that.

For those who might be wondering, position of the watch is only important for timekeeping, so if you get the best result with the crown down, as long as you are not dropping it onto the crown, it won’t hurt anything...

I wear mine all of the time, except when:

- doing something particularly dirty (washing dishes)
- taking a shower/bath
- if I need to nuke my hands (Covid hand washing)

For "bad" situations, I have my Steinhart...

I have an alarm clock on my bedside table so my watches sleep in a watchbox, as I'm rotating my watch collection daily, and being a stickler of managing the daily gain/loss, the watches are in the positional variation to counter the deviation.

Usually set the watch, dial face up, on a folded lens cloth on my desk, if it has a bracelet I set the watch crown up on the same lens cloth. Same when I travel, except on the nightstand next to the bed.

I have a leather tray that was a Vacheron Constantin giveaway that I got 30 years ago, my watch goes in there. It's in my study. Thare is too much stuff on my side table with remote controls, water bottle, phone, etc for a watch, too. Too much opportunity for it landing on the floor. I don't fret about daily rates anymore so the watch is set with the crown up, ready to go in the morning.

Yes, it is, thank you. I think that the ecru (beige) dial is the best looking one he made for this series, and the case has the very desirable shaped crystal which was too difficult to produce so they went to a round crystal in subsequent years which just didn't have the same elegance. Picked this one up second hand about eight years ago with all boxes and papers, and spare solid back. It's a keeper. Older RD's (pre-Richemont) are just getting discovered, tremendous value in his chronographs, Patek quality finishing at a fraction of the cost. And his dials were superb.

I wear my watch all the time unless water is involved. Is there a reason why you wouldn’t want to wear a watch while sleeping? I could understand possible scratches possibly from your significant others jewelry, but what else?

Hi all,

I recently bought a Speedy Pro Sapphire Sandwich and I love it. Always wanted one and I am enjoying wearing it each day.

I have seen lots of posts about watch storage boxes for watch collections (and have one of those for my other watches). However what do people tend to use for when they take their daily driver watch off at night and put it on the bedside table/nightstand? I am thinking of getting a watch tree or something on which to safely put my watch on each night so it doesn't get scuffed or knocked in the dark. I still want it handy so i can slip it on amidst the usual morning hubub!

I don't. My daily wearer I don't take out unless really required. This means I sleep with it, shower with it... If the watch can't stand that, then it's not a daily wearer.

...but recently I acquired a 60's Constellation: it isn't up to my "daily wearer" conditions (no lume, no water tightness and, in the end, not precise enough) but, anyway, I wanted to wear it day-in day-out for a while to see how well it worked. Since it wasn't to be on my wrist while sleeping I also let it rest in different positions. It resulted it goes fast by more than one second/hour when crown down, which happens to be an amount that more or less compensates the average daily pattern which is going a bit too slow. So if that watch were to be a daily wearer, then it should rest crown down most days. Other watches would show other patterns, and that means it's not only a matter of finding a place so it can rest safely, but also where you can put it in different positions to get the most of it.

Hmmm, interesting. I tend to lie mine down on the smooth side (opposite side to the crown) so it not rest on the crown or pushers. I hadn't thought about the variances in accuracy depending on the orientation of the watch.

Same here, but my leather valet isn’t nearly as nice as that one!
