I timed that on my chrono you guys took less time to respond to my one sentence than expected. Please don’t get this thread shut down it was one sentence easy to let go.

You're right, us guys should definitely be careful of what we say. 😉

but seriously, it wasn't meant in offense, it just served as a good observation point.

1362 responses, this thread sure has long legs, even longer than Stormy Daniels!

You're right, anyone focused solely on the statements about Canada being for sale is probably wetting the bed. I'm sure you agree there's definitely a lot more that merits discussion than just that topic!
Dog owners can probably relate to this. There are several sentences you never thought you'd say. Like, "on no, he rolled in dead fish again!" Or, "Drop the cat poop!"

Or like this picture, "watch out, here comes a helicopter! Grab him before he chases it!" Yes, he chases helicopters, like the one circled in red that was approaching the landing.

Another sentence I never thought I'd hear, "Canada is not for sale!" 😜

So anyways, the garden look beautiful @ErichPryde! Even just looking at the pics felt relaxing, so I can easily imagine it being an effective place to take a break/retreat.

So, I took a bit of a mental break from this thread yesterday afternoon and worked on my garden quite a bit. It was nice break, but I did want to come back and clarify that my blunt response was not meant to be hostile.

Gosh, it is coming out beautifully! Can't wait for my roses to bloom this year, they are loaded with buds. The butterfly bushes are looking healthy, all of my rhodies are starting to open up, it's just beautiful and so enjoyable to get outside in the sun with all the color. So many things in bloom- bleeding hearts, camas, columbine, tree peonies, all sorts of annuals, irises- the time of year is unbelievable in the Pacific Northwest.

Spectacular garden.

Mental break? This forum is fun and games. Hardly a mentally exhausting undertaking.

Thank you, I appreciate the comments about my garden. It's definitely something I get a lot of joy from.

As far as needing to take a mental break, perhaps it's just wildly different in terms of our approach. I see these topics as very serious and I very much think that this forum should be a place people can engage in this sort of discussion in a respectful and courteous manner. I know I know- that's essentially unheard of on the internet these days, but it is a keystone of my principles.

I've gotten to know many people on this forum over the last couple of years fairly well through their comments and I respect them. Sometimes disagreeing with people you respect requires a certain amount of thought. Or at least, I very much believe it should. Many of the people here are representative of the best and the brightest, and I think that's reflected in the interest that brought us here. Mutual respect should go beyond the fact that we all like Omega, there should be some understanding that there is, in many cases, a bright mind behind the posts.

Could be that I am just an idealist fighting windmills on principles I should let go, but I don't think so.

Understand it is serious and highly opinionated. But in the long run who cares what another believes, is what it is. Well except for Dan S because he is unkind to me.

I took no offense to anything you said. Quite the opposite…I enjoy our discourse (except @Dan S He hurts my feelings as much as he does @The Father . Kidding, Dan. Hope you smiled a bit.)

Your garden is stunning! Glad you got to be in it. I worked my honey bees this weekend. The world seems to stop when I do that. 60,000 workers all working for the good of the hive.

That's awesome, I bet it's peaceful. We love bees here as well and I do my best to encourage them, although I don't have the property space for hives here so it's mostly encouraging the many different species of bumblebees and Mason bees we have. I had a friend in Arizona who was into Apiculture and kept hives.

The biggest Rhododendron in my yard (at least 12 ft wide and 10 tall) tends to buzz quite audibly when all of its many, many blooms open up.

But if you want to send honey to your friend in Canada, how much is the tariff?

I think bootlegging and all sorts of product 'running' is going to be the new growth industry.

Zero tariffs from me. The occasional stings and the work may cost something, but I draw the line at tariffs. And even if some other country was doing the same as the current admin is doing at the moment, I’d still send it because I’m know it’s not the friends fault and I’m not petty like that 😉

Wasn't it Gandhi that drove AMC out of business by protesting their salt tariff and bringing his own salt to the movie theater? Or was it Sam Adams? I always get them confused

Edit: oh wait, I remember now. Sam Adams led the non-violent protests about New Coke and got the recipe changed back, right?

Would you tear up the Louisiana Purchase, a bad deal for France, as well?
"The Louisiana Purchase was the 1803 acquisition by the United States of approximately 828,000 square miles (2,144,520 km²) of territory from France, west of the Mississippi River, for $15 million-about three to four cents per acre. This land deal nearly doubled the size of the United States, adding territory that now makes up all or part of 15 current U.S. states and parts of two Canadian provinces"

Is that most of todays 'flyoverland' that voted for Trump?
