You guys see a nazi behind every bush

Hey Dan
Several others brought up immigration.

Are you going to admonish them for polluting the thread.

Get ‘em Dan. Get ‘em. Don’t hold back.
You’re coming across as an a$$.

And Canada needs to understand how Trump operates. All hat and no cattle. No one is making Canada the 51st state. Ridiculous tariffs haven't happened yet, and I doubt they ever will. Remember when Mexico was going to "pay for the wall"? That check hasn't cleared yet.

Hopefully, your new government will get it more than the old one, sit down with the trade negotiators, work out a deal that works for us both and put this stupidity behind us.

I'm far more worried about the erosions of the rule of law in this country and hope the courts can stand against a Justice Department run by a hit woman. I am from Florida and trust me, she is bad news.

He's trying to interfere with our election even this morning...

Tariffs haven't happened yet? Seriously?

The U.S. is imposing a 25% tariff on all imports that don’t comply with the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA)
10% tariff is applied to non-CUSMA compliant potash and energy products.
25% tariff on aluminum and steel imports from all countries into the U.S. has been in effect since March 12.
25% tariff on all cars and trucks not built in the U.S. was announced on March 26 and took effect on April 2.

Our government understands how Trump works - we negotiated a deal with him last time he was in power. We were quite willing to renegotiate that deal on schedule next year as required, and even entertain starting that process early. But Trump decided that rather than do that, he would tear it up and come after Canada - again not our choice. I fully agree we need to put this stupidity behind us - the ball is in Trump's court on that because that is where the stupidity lies...not in Ottawa.

I share your concerns about the erosion of the rule of law, and the willingness (shall I say eagerness) with which the law enforcement community has gone after people. But that is outside the scope of this thread...

Man—you've been offered plenty of generosity on this thread. I'm lost as to what you're looking for other than a fight and to pretend like you're making salient points. If you wanted the borders controlled, were you upset when the current president hectored the last congress to scuttle the immigration bill they were ready to pass?
we are not supposed to talk about border control, Dan said.

Trump was not President when the supposed immigration bill was brought forward. Somebody else was President, we just don't know who.

Fight? No, I just don't like all the mealy mouth fuckers here that bad mouth America. Europe would be speaking German or Russian. Most of Asia would be under Japanese or Chinese control. You are all smart enough to figure out why they are not.

That's right—jeez, sorry. It's almost like one of us is living in a parallel dimension in which the positions he supports are always and infallably correct, and one of us can handle nuance.

It wasn't a 'supposed' immigration bill; it was real, drafted and supported by republicans. The current president was involved in pressuring them against its passage because he preferred to run on immigration as an issue, rather than actually try to address it with legislation.

Edit to add: Dan correctly noted the thread's about tariffs, and that you've tried to respond to the chaotic policy choices of the current admin with deflections having to do with immigration.

I think there's a point at which we all have to make a decision about whether or not to engage with folks that aren't coming to the table with rational, reasoned arguments to add to the discussion. If people can't argue in good faith, back up statements with sources, and won't accept other's sources as having value... I'm only willing to be irritated by those interactions so many times.

EDIT:
I just don't like all the mealy mouth fuckers here that bad mouth America.

Congratulations on pushing a button- what an absolutely offensive thing to say. What you mean by this is people who insult your view of America and the leader you voted for. No one has accused you of bad-mouthing America when you've bad-mouthed the prior administration and it's wild that you think this is a reasonable thing to say. Log off, take a break, and cool down.

Please.

Ah, past tense. Here in 2025, the Massive Aholes Governing America are doing their best to get Europe, Africa and the US speaking Russian. Most pathetic thing I have witnessed in my 59 years. I'm an American, but these fktards are not my 'leaders'.

You want to go there?

Here's mine:

Here's my dad's:

We swore an oath to defend the constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic.

Edit:
Here's my mom's. She was a tour guide in Philadelphia and probably knew more about American history than most Americans. She was also an Army wife, which every military family knows serves along side. Sorry for leaving you out, mom.

Exactly. I engaged with other Trump supporters but I'm not going respond to that one.

So you mean to tell me that because I don’t like the way our government is currently being operated, I’m bad mouthing America?

You obviously don’t understand what the 1st Amendment is all about.

Yet the entire world wants to be in America.
Not the entire world, my life is good here (NL), don't want to be in America any time soon.

Back to watches and tariffs, not sure if this was mentioned yet. When chatting about tariffs and watches, a friend said don't forget about Rolex. Wilsdorf moved from London to Switzerland to avoid the high tariffs imposed by England on the movements he was importing. Worked out pretty well for Switzerland, but not so well for England.

I was trying to find betting odds on tariff "deals" on Kalshi, but couldn't find many. Just China. Lots of bets on which tariffs will be added.

But that is inherently complex. The culture you are describing of not valuing education transcends skin color and religion and place of birth... in so many cases the major connection is income.

It is so difficult to value or prioritize educating your children when you are working two jobs just to make ends meet. When you barely have time to cook. Time is one of the greatest premiums that the poorest of us have the least of. And it is a constant and inexorable system of feedback from one generation to the next.
Money doesn't fix a culture of not valuing education. It definitely correlates, because valuing education results in income. People have to just wake up at some point. Statistically people who are impoverished have such little chance of getting themselves out of poverty. America spends a ton of money trying to do it, but only the people who really want out get out.

I think you can make anything complex by skirting around all the various side issues, but this one is not complex, because the biggest factor in who ends up educated or not is the value placed on education by the parents. It's culture. Nothing else. And I don't think the government can "fix" culture.

Excuse me but this thread is supposed to be about tariffs and their impact on watches. It is going everywhere but that. I think you are all trying to get my thread shut down. Respectfully of course.

Long Island watch breaking down the impact of tariffs for their shop.

Edit: upon further review, this was the math before the last round if tit-for-tat tariffs. The projected costs would be much higher now.

Agree, though not necessarily with the same reason as you. When you are poor it is very difficult to avoid a being in debt. Imagine a mother raising a child. She works every day to earn money but it's just enough to pay rent, food, etc. What happens if she misses a day of work because her child has a fever and must stay home? She falls into debt. It is basically survival mode. Her child might get a decent education, but chances are against it because the parent is busy just surviving.
