Original or Re-dial? / Another thread

Hi Folks,

I have expressed interest in a watch, and the owner was gracious enough to say that maybe I could get opinions on the dial below. I was curious what the community thinks about the below photos. Did these early dials vary enough to have furniture / tick mark misalignment? Is this original?

Thanks in advance.

Scott

I would have said repainted dial, also note how the E in Omega is not centralized to the Omega Symbol though of course that could be parallax error from the photo.

It is not too bad. The sweep hand is too long for the track.

Artifacts from the crystal and image enhancement also can factor into the wonkiness in the edges of the font. The engraver plates used to create the master were ruler straight.

It really comes down to feeling and emotion. The more one sees, the better the evaluation. If something looks off then that is all that is seen. So even if it is correct, much time will be spent defending why it is correct.

Does the condition of the case and movement match?

The complete word "Omega" should generally be centred below the Ω, so with kerning and correct positioning, the "E" would generally be slightly to the right of the Ω.

It's difficult to demonstrate without a perfectly flat/centred reference photo, but this is close enough to show it.

Thats helpful. So, based on those measurements, it appears to be correctly in the center, right? The words are centered, but the E is slightly to the right.

That's my observation from many dials. But like the MOY for Connies, Omega sometimes didn't follow my rules.

A lot of older vintages (pre 1950s) do have variations in quality due to the printing processes at the time, sometimes depending on the dial maker.
