I turn 40 next month... Personally I always found it quite a gentle term especially for the internet. Gender neutral and inclusive of all ages. Better than gents, chaps, people, peeps or other specific monikers.

To be honest your response will probably stop me coming back.. Shame we could have been friends..

Don't let it get to you - it's baffling why someone would find that offensive, and I doubt there are a great number here who would to be honest.

Thanks, lucky enough my email notifications were on so I saw some more friendly messages drop in and came back.

The joys of the interwebs

Loved your meme..

Great share, I am now on a new watch ban from the wife as I am getting a tag for the 40th next month and currently have a vintage Seiko 5 Baby Monaco in for some restoration too

That Luch is very nice, I was looking at lots of soviet watches this evening then the seamaster popped up so I just ran at it. I will definitely be book marking that page. I work in an office some you can't have too many dress watches

Oh no you're hooked. After a sufficient amount of time passes, check out this thread:

Congrats on the incoming Tag and 40 years on planet earth! Good on you for taking care of the Seiko. I am on a self-imposed buying ban. No new watches until I take care of the ones I got. I am now down to one that needs a service and one that is currently out on service.

I know what you mean. Turned into an expensive hobby. I should have bought a porsche boxter instead

I am looking forward to getting the seiko back. Now I need to shop for a nice strap to match a gold watch... I wonder if navy blue will go nice with the gold and still be 'dressy'?

Hmmmmmm...."Omega dudes??" Probably not the best way to address a group of people you're seeking free advice from.
I can think of any number of addresses which would be significantly less welcomed hereparts.

"Omega Dudes" is fine by me.
I will make a point of never calling you that.

Better to be outbid than to overpay. This was a challenging time for mechanical watches trying to compete with quartz. I would not have gone over 200GBP. Now let's see a picture of this quartz Seamaster brah. 😎

Agree. That watch is not particularly desirable and would be hard to sell once the OP tired of it.

After having been reproved for referring to 'ladies' by both the women to whom I was talking and by Mrs S, I adopted the gender neutral 'guys', regularly used by my (then) 12 year old daughter to her male and female classmates.

Now, at 70+, I’m perfectly happy with 'dude', and shall, in all likelihood, start using it myself in a similar gender neutral sort of way.

I don’t regard myself as 'woke' but you have to move with the times and old dogs (?) (never 'bitches'!) can learn new tricks.

Anyone got any more useful words …… ?

In teaching, I’ve found “everyone” neatly sidesteps any gender coding.
