Gents Im looking to purchase a watch to remember my grandparents by, they have left me some money and i would like something that i can look at and think that they effectively bought me it. I have looked at a few Rolex last night and I'm pulled towards... THE HULK!!! Also tried on the blue dial Milgauss, Bi-Col Datejust with Slate dial, Datejust with white gold bezel (now ruled out) What are your thoughts and i am also open to suggestions on others i should look at. Suggestions must be new pieces as i do not want to buy a pre-owned piece for a few reasons. Remember it will be a watch that i will never sell and will be passed down the line
I vote for the Milgauss, classy with a little zing. Nice color combos too. Great thing to pass a watch down.
Did either of your grandparents wear a watch? Perhaps the modern version of one of theirs or something of a similar style? Otherwise something that they would approve of and is a timeless design so it can be passed on?
Yes my dad in the 60's was actually an Omega AD in the uk and he bought his dad a seamaster, i have that with box and papers signed by my dad in 67, also my grans gold ladies watch with box and papers from 67. Ive had a new SM 300 and i flipped it, i just couldn't get on with it in the end, i obviously won't be wearing a ladies watch either lol If only my dad had of bought a load of Speedy's back in the day!!
I don't know, a nice diamond encrusted Constellation might look cracking. You might start a trend! If you've already got your Grandads actual watch, gifted to him by your dad, it sounds like your pretty much covered and have license to get what the hell you want! Your dad hasnt got any 2915's or 2998's sat around has he?
Well unfortunately, my dad passed in 2013 so i can def say no... Yes the watch was bought by my dad in 67, given to my granddad till 2005 to which it passed to my dad, when he died, my dad passed to me when he passed. I had to change the crystal on it and gave it a service but other than that its as it came out of the AD. I also put a new Omega strap on it.
Give us a little more, Darren! Sports only? Any budget constraints? As a legacy piece, I envision a beautiful dress watch to be worn on births, deaths, weddings, anniversaries, graduations, etc. Perhaps with a small, understated inscription on the back commemorating their lives? Their wedding date would be fitting!
What a great thing to have. Money can't buy that kind of family association. Because you have such a piece as this already, Id use this as a chance to get that special piece that you'd perhaps always had a eye on.
I hardly ever wear a suit and has to be no smaller than 40mm obviously i love speedy's but i feel i want to be different with this watch. Ive owned a GSOTM & DSOTM so they are out and the new ones don't really do anything for me. Don't like the Tresor either. The JLC is nice but it would hardly be worn as the leather strap would get ruined in a few year with the Florida sweat! Sports models are my preference. I do have a Panerai itch at the moment. Not in to AP and Hublot etc so they are 100% out the window. Omega Panerai Rolex JLC Zenith I don't want a pre-owned as i want the history to start with me and not several other people that before me. It will be the watch i also wear at my wedding next year.
Out of the 4 that you've listed my preference is also the Hulk. That being said, if I was in the market for a new Rolex that I planned on keeping I would be drawn toward the Rolex Batman GMT Master II.
I have had one already. I also have a GMT M2c that I bought when me and the future wife got together.
Am in a similar situation and am thinking of going a JLC as Rolex just does not suit the remembrance of loved ones for me, more of a made money or promotion type watch.
I know you have potentially dismissed Speedies, but is there a limited edition at the end of Omega's countdown clock? If so, it would definitely be associated with this year.
