With this watch being limited to 3016 produced do you think it will increase in value? It seems to be pretty widely available at 4900 new, 4k used and around 3500 gray market.

I wouldn't advise you to buy watches based on perceived future increases, because most watches don't increase in value, and if they do a lot of time has to pass, and none of us have crystal balls to see into the future.

From what I've picked up on here though, I don't think Olympic editions ever really do too well, so if you like the watch then that should be the only factor you use if you can afford it.

Considering you can still get new Olympic watches from the previous 3 or 4 Olympics at a discount I would say no. They where made in similar numbers.

Only reason to get one is if it has meaning to you, or you really like the design.

Then again in 50 years when the Olympics become a blood sport and kitschy tie ins are all the rage for the 3rd wave hipsters it could be worth a million or so... but with inflation you might still loose money.

Don't think there is the same connection as to space in the public mind - would stay away if it isn't for personal enjoyment.

Here is my favorite Olympic watch. Only real difference is bronze silver and gold subdials. But they really make it pop.

^^ saw that one in the flesh earlier today. It has a nice vintage (early 1900's) feel to it.

Not a Rio Edition, but still I think shows how high no. Olympic LEs are not exactly hot property...

The Vancouver OB still had this rather ugly 2010 LE SMP....still not sold in July 2017!!!:whistling:

This is an interesting one, how does it wear? Have considered buying but not made the jump (so far).

s-l500.jpg I liked the Torino watch when it was released, with the 5 rings on the second hand. But after the fakes started rolling in, I quickly lost interest in them, and haven't really considered buying another since. Not my photo, borrowed from ebay.

"Limited" to several thousand is stretching the definition of the word. Over THREE THOUSAND?? That's just silly.

I like the overall design with its retro style but to me, the gray market price is full value.

What an ugly thing! The problem with Omega is the multiplication of variants. On the merchant site www.chrono24.de, there are more than 20k Omega watches up for sale at a discount or second hand. That's a huge grey market and it's full of these ugly watches. I just hope the current management turns out to being more sensible and starts narrowing the offer.

A very good point. I was looking in to buying an Olympic collection because I thought it might increase in value, however, I realized that I do not know how to predict future. Also I did not like the design as much and spending money on something which does not make me happy is not a right move.

I do not think the Olympics capture the hearts and minds of people anymore. With the corruption, bribes, doping, cheating, etc. Scandal after scandal. The Olympics connection does not add value in my opinion and may detract.

I still like the Olympics but I don't get the appeal of a timepiece that commemorates them. Maybe if I had competed there I'd be more interested but just wearing it and remembering how you watched it on TV doesn't make much sense to me.

Idk, I love the vintage Omegas and some modern references but I can’t help but feel that of all the luxury brands they seem to push “limited editions” and re-editions the most. The Olympic editions are no exception.
