Hi all,

I would like your opinion on a vintage Omega Seamaster cal 562 sold by a Japanese seller on ebay. I'm still learning about vintage Omegas and have been reading through the threads here about buying advice.

From what I know:
The seller wants about 1600USD. It has been reported as 'overhauled' and reportedly 'ready-to-wear' but does not say when. Based on the pictures it looks like the case has been polished and there is still evidence of scratches. There are no pictures of the inside of the case back to indicate the case reference number. Strap appears to be a generic non-Omega strap.

What I would like to know:
I'm considering purchasing this, but wanted a second opinion of forum members here.
1. Does it look authentic? Any parts look out of place for this model?
2. The listing mentions an issue with bumps on the dial if looking through a loupe, is that anything to be concerned about?
3. Any evidence of water damage or other red flags?
4. Is the price considered high given the condition and type of dial (and that it doesn't come with a bracelet)?

Excerpt of seller listing description below:

■ Serial number 2303 ****
This pre-owned product has been overhauled to serve a high quality product

The daily difference at the inspection stage is about +7 seconds with a flat tester, and it is operating smoothly.

Windshield & back cover shield Replaced.
It has been newly refinished (polishing & cleaning)
There are some friction scratches that could not be removed.
The dial is beautiful considering the age, but when you look at it with a loupe, there are small bumps, but this is also a proof of history. {See photo}

[Complete maintenance] It is a product that can be used immediately with [safety] because it has been maintained.

Very nice/very polished but very expensive by half….. but dealers gotta eat.

factor in a service unless you see a signed invoice saying any warranty is transferable and then debate whether it would be feasible to hassle with shipping, ect.

All that verbiage in the listing is just distraction and misdirection.

What do they mean by “bumps”? It could be water damage to paint?
I think crown is replaced, imo there should be clover crown typical for fat lugs case.

This is a very late fat lug, way into the 60s so the rules applicable to the 1950s examples don’t necessarily apply. In any case that crown is actually seen on some particular fat lugs from new. The Dennison models for instance. That was polished pretty hard, the lugs look soft and It does sound expensive. There is something weird with that pattern of scratching ok the rear. I wonder if an inscription was obscured and only partly polished off. I’d give this one a miss personally.

Two to three times what I would pay for it given the condition. Actually, I wouldn't buy it, but you know what I mean. 😉

Unfortunately, many of the Japanese sellers like to prep watches this way.

Looks like a 166.009. I've owned a couple. Nice watches. But this one is way overpriced.

Thanks everyone! I'll pass on this one given the comments on the price. The case polishing was also a bit of concern for me too. I appreciate all the feedback you have provided and it's been very educational for me. It'll help me going forward.

I hadn’t previously seen a 166.009 (if that’s what this is) but 166.010s are very similar and much more available, with a chronometer or non-chronometer movement.
