    Hello

I want to sell some watches, and among them there is a Speedmaster 2998-1 for which I would like to know more.
I do not know if the watch is original, but the pictures I've seen of other watches make me believe that some parts were changed. And what year, 1960, 61, 62?
I also wonder why the words "T Swiss Made T" is so hard to see, almost hidden by the box !!
And the fatal question, what price can I expect to sell it, and where?

Thank you in advance and sorry for my bad English.

Um, let's start with the dial, hands and bezel as issues. Want more?

Yes as indicated by calalum the dial, bezel and hands have all been replaced by new models. This significantly reduces the value of the watch.
    The movement looks OK.

A shame. Case and movement are still ok. This is what it should look like

I didn't realize Professional dials fit in the 2998-1 case. Are they completely interchangeable?

What a bummer about all the swaps.

I think picking up an Ed White dial, or even a preprofessional service dial and some replacement alpha hands would be a big improvement. At least then it would be a pre professional Speedmaster.

It's value is in its parts.

The case is the most valuable thing.

The movement is not for me. Look at the colour difference in the bridges. I do not think they left the factory together.

Nor did much else on this watch.

You better off breaking and selling the parts on eBay in this market

I disagree. 17301xxx is a correct 2998-1 movement number. It's actually the same 5 digits as my 2998-1 above. Perhaps some parts were replaced in a service or the photo angle is off but I think the movement is original to the case. 2 of the 3 most important components are intact. Rebuild it from there.

Thank you all for your information and Gemini for picture.
I'll try to find a dial, needles but I renounce the bezel (too expensive).
I found at Otto Frei a dial (OME-321-DIAL # 4 $ 340.00), which seems to fit, what do you think?

If the dial is good, you know where I can find correct hands?

I think that dial is correct. Regarding hands, I wonder if FOIS hands would work?

If you wanted to keep it, I would agree, at least as a stop gap, that 'ageing' a service dial and hands would improve matters.

However, if this is purely to prepare the watch for sale, i don't think adding a modern service dial is worth the effort. Anyone can get one, and the person who ultimately buys it may have their own ideas about what course of action to take.

I'd either sell as is, or list the case and movement together, then the dial, then bezel and hands. All in ebay, no reserve auction.

If the watch in this condition is not worth more than $ 6,000 I prefer to keep it.
What is its value in your opinion?

Gemini, you think that FOIS hands are easier to find?

The FIOS is a modern version of the 2998, so hands should be readily available.

Case and movement might go for $6K+. Dial, maybe $800. Hands, maybe $150. Bezel isn't worth much.

By comparison, a proper bezel for your watch is probably going to cost $10K+ just for the bezel alone. A proper dial, maybe $2K. Proper hands, dunno, $500-$1000.

So the missing parts are worth more that the parts on hand..
