Greetings all, I'm looking for a 'wearer', and thinking vintage simply because they cost so much less than new. I normally do not look at Rolex because I dislike the dates, and even more that bubble they put over it, but recently came across this 6426 that has no date. I like the clean look, but in 1 month of reading solely about Omega, realise I have just scratched the surface of knowledge for that brand; I know nothing about Rolex. I see some nicks in the upper right lug, but it does not look too polished to my untrained eye. Serial number is supposed to in the low 1 millions, allegedly dating it to mid 1960's. Can any of the experts give an opinion on this piece, which is priced at USD $2100?
Not an expert on this model, but I'm not sure those hands are correct. I would have guessed alpha or dauphine given the shape of the applied markers. Have you checked by looking at photos of similar examples?
Actually these hands are probably correct, given that it is a no-lume dial. I've seen them before on this vintage. Price seems a little high, but the included 7205 bracelet may be worth 300-500 of that. Figure in a cost for servicing if not already done.
I believe you, but I don't like the look of the stick hands (with tails) and those tapered markers. I'd prefer alpha. Not a comment about originality, just my personal preferences. I like watches that look good to me ... I'm funny that way.
Oh, whilst I have you folks attention. Any other non-bubble (on the glass) models you would recommend? I admit, the alpha hands do look much nicer. The example Dan S. posted is quite handsome.
I don't think the price is outrageous, but I can't really judge the condition. I seem to see some damage near the top of the dial (?). Obviously, this is the absolute entry-level model, a no-date hand-winder, which is fine. Actually, it's appealing to me as well, although 34mm is on the small side. You might like a vintage Air-King ref 5500. They are very readily available.
