I recently acquired a 1964 Constellation reference 167.005 which has a unique patination that I’ve seldom seen before. It’s composed of very tiny spots that are spread uniformly across the dial and very difficult to see unless the dial is viewed at an angle in bright light. You can also see it if you zoom in on the attached photo, although the spots appear much larger and more visible than they appear when viewing the dial in person and without magnification. The pattern reminds me of a very dense star field that one might see through a deep space telescope when looking at a distant galaxy. Anybody know if there is a particular name for this pattern and what causes it?
