On Ebay, I won a Speedie 145.022-69.....But it looks strange?? Opinions Please!!

This is the text from the Bonhams condition report:

Movement: Runs when wound, chronograph functions
Dial: Light marks and debris in places, relumed at some stage, lume missing and discoloured
in places, possiblv a service dial
Hands: Later, slight discoloration and debris to centre and to subsidiary hands
Glass: Surface scratches
Case: Surface scratches throughout with minor nicks in places, the bezel insert is worn and
is probably a replacement
Strap/Bracelet: Surface scratches with minor nicks in places, stretched, measures
approximately 180mm
Buckle/Clasp: Surface scratches

EDIT: Edited to add that it although it mentions the oddities with the dial and bezel, it doesn't state that these are NOT Omega issue, and instead a faux attempt at replicating a more valuable vintage watch.

The description says Omega and the movement 861, clearly this is not the case. It always amazes me how little checking or attention to detail the auction houses perform

The prestigious auction house did say "but it's an 861 movement", and I had to reply by saying "it's a movement made for Tissot by Lemania, not the movement made by Lemania for Omega which affects the value and integrity of the Lot - akin to how a Maserati might have a Ferrari engine but there's a vast difference in value between the two".

Aren't they supposed to have "experts"? Under the current circumstances, it's also very difficult to view and examine the watches as well as one would like. I'd like to see what happens when the cover of COVID restrictions is no longer at play.

Calling them experts is a little ott, I've had to feedback a few times regarding clear fakes and even one auction that described and titled an omega and pictured a seiko just today. The 'expert' aspect will vary quite a lot from auction house to auction house, some specialise in watches an jewellery, but more often specialise in selling off deceased estates, bust business assets etc., both might well auction a speedy with differing accuracy.

That said if it was sold as a type xxx and turned out to be a type yyy you probably have recourse, often they'd reference pictures but if they dont openly show the watch movement and model/type number you can use that as reason to complain and/or return the item.

I guess I have just been naive in that regard, relying on the apparent reputations of these auction houses. The more research I've been doing online, the more I've seen instances whereby these houses have not been as honourable as they claim to be. There's actually better scope for recourse off of eBay than there is from places like these... Lesson learned.

How can a watch like this be blacklisted so no-one falls for it again?

Officially I don't know but.in this day of the internet, posting the serial number raises the chance the potential buyer finds this information and can make a more informed decision. We do this on a few vehicle forums I'm a member of using VINs. On one, we actually created a registry where owners, seller, or buyers can enter information about the car. Entries could be currently registered in state/country, sold to, basic.modifications, wrecked, totaled, etc. Seems to work IF a potential buyer wants to know or knows about the into being out there. You can't help everyone.

Sucks that it ended up at Bonhams. Sucks that they took it in. Sucks that they didn’t spot the issues. Sucks that you didn’t either and bought it.

Everyone involved from end to end is human, and humans make mistakes.

Would suggest giving them a call on Monday, making them aware of this thread and that the watch is not as described, and going from there.

I know two members of the team there pretty well, I don’t think pressure is required, more a conversation - and sharing this thread will help them to understand what all the issues are.

Everyone makes mistakes - I believe that they will do everything they can to be helpful.
