Have you heard of Lemania? Or Tissot, since the serial number looks like a Tissot one?
I have now. Looked up pics of the Tissot Lemania version of the Omega 861 movement and you are spot on. Thanks!

This is a very odd watch. The balance cock is all wrong for an 861. Not only is the eccentric screw missing, and the regulating pointer is not hollow for that screw, but the stud carrier appears to be the wrong colour. If you look at the balance spring coming out of regulating pins, it makes a very odd nearly 90 degree turn, like someone tried to fit the wrong balance to the watch. Edited to add this photo - this is not what the spring should look like.

Okay it might just be the angle of the photo making the dog leg look very extreme....would need to see another photo to be sure...

The colour of the balance wheel is also wrong. I'll be surprised if this runs well, if it runs at all.

The bezel insert looks like it has been removed, and really doesn't fit the bezel well - might have been machined down to fit, and done very unevenly. Even the crystal looks off to me - like it is a much higher dome that a proper Speedmaster crystal.

As far as the lack of watchmaker service marks inside, well if I was involved with this watch, I certainly would not want it traced back to me, so maybe not too surprising there are no marks.

I know you want to believe this is something special, but I think if you take the emotion out of this, it's just some put together watch mate...and a very bad one at that...

Cheers, Al

Thanks for your input, Al. I appreciate it.

So are you going to lose your $20 or keep the watch?

Hopefully, neither. Since @TNTwatch solved the riddle of the 7 digit movement number, I messaged the seller not to bother shipping since I would only send back. The seller has a favorable rating of >300 so I don't expect there to be an issue.

I spent a a while pouring over this watch. Too many warning signs coupled with my amateur status put this in the "no" column for me as well. Sorry it didn't work out for you but happy that my ability to spot a weird one is getting better.

MWO book has more than paid for itself already.

Thanks. Although some of the questionable aspects of this watch were beyond the realm of MWO, it is a great resource.

Message from eBay:

Good news--your order was canceled.

The seller refunded $2,588.00 back to your original payment method, and you don't need to do anything else.

So no harm, no foul. Thanks to all for their advice and feedback. A learning experience for me. Gotta like this forum!!

I have already warned gents here when the same obscure specimen sold a while back:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-RARE-1969-OMEGA-SPEEDMASTER-PROFESSIONAL-MOON-WATCH-145022-69-Cal-861-/191563950009?rmvSB=true&nma=true&si=giAIWLwRa8Esqzj%2BT5WRqs72Ars%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Since then it probably "sold" at least a couple times more... but it seems that this amazing 2 Mill serial Speedmaster never cease to attract attention.

Other than the crappy bezel, the watch sold in April appears to be a different bogus watch. Same type of piece of junk with the Tissot 7 digits but a different serial number, different dial type and caseback. Looks like seller even went through a eBay name change as well.

Indeed. Just looking at the bezel i thought it was the same watch. I didn't bother to compare further.
That makes it ever worst considering the amount of crap around.

Hi there guys! I am a newbie to this forum, but would really appreciate your help.

It looks like I bought this VERY watch from a Bonhams auction! I bought the item in good faith as Bonhams of Knightsbridge is a very prestigious auction house.

I haven't paid or collected the watch though as on closer inspection it looked suspect, and then after hours of hunting I found this thread... can anyone help confirm my worst suspisions? 🙁

EDIT: I've just edited to add that in essence the main giveaway after "winning" the item (apart from all the cosmetic obviousness) is the fact that the movement number is seven digits, whereas Speedmasters have eight digits...

Looks like it's not a good catch unfortunately. The watch is really weird (Serial, bezel, dial, hands...)...

🙁 I thought as much. Is it always the case the genuine Speedy's should have eight serial numbers? I'm just on the phone to one of their experts.

The recents speedmaster have the serial engraved on the lug. The vintage ones (as a 145.022-69 like this one pretend to be) don't.
The serial is also uncompleted here.
