Donald Trump's White House has a fancy new status symbol ... custom Rolexes with a presidential seal on the dial ... and they look super cool!!!

According to Vanity Fair, a small group of Trump administration insiders has gotten their hands on custom timepieces known as the "White House Rolex."
VF reports Trump envoy Steve Witkoff, chief of staff Susie Wiles and White House counsel Will Scharf own one ... along with Vance aides Nick Luna and Cliff Sims. Campaign strategist Chris LaCivita and Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio are also said to be in the White House Rolex club.
How much did "we the people" pay for these?

Very much so I’d much prefer we leave politics out of this place so we can enjoy the frivolous aspects of our lives. Since it permeates every aspect of our media/lives it is nice to have a place free from it.

No photo of the customized Rolex? I gotta see it to criticize it properly.
If it's "on dial" then it can't be a Daytona.

Legally, government officials can't accept valuable gifts like a gold Rolex watch. Whether it happens or not is another thing. Biden had some expensive watches he wore, did he buy them, who knows. Same with Clinton after he left the White House. From what I've read these Rolex's are modified in London, so they aren't a Rolex produced item. If they actually paid fair market value for the watches, who cares. I find them tacky, but these sorts of watches have a long history.

Is this third party customization or did Rolex make these?

I bet Rolex is involved since they got on their knees, not long ago.

Says they were done by a shop in London.

I'm pretty apolitical. I also think Rolex lost their way a long time ago. I have owned two Rolexes, one very recently. Rolex doesn't care about watches. They care about image, and they aren't too particular which image they project. Combine that with their laughable sales strategy and they have become a self parody.

I like that this thread pivoted back into horology.

I respectfully disagree with, Rolex doesn’t care about watches and their laughable sales strategy.

In every measurable metrics they are wildly successful at both. What you are at odds with Rolex is simply…personal taste.

It was always about horology. What's interesting is that these are the status symbol, not his own gold watches.

It's no surprise that Rolex is the preferred choice of politicians. Both only care about their image.

Then when rolex gets offered to you, politely refuse and move on. Or buy it and resell it. I'm sure some politician somewhere is wearing your exact watch so you might as well sell them all and be happy then.

I would politely accept the Rolex and then sell it. Which might be rude, but would it be more rude to flat out refuse?
