I plan on sending my newly acquired Constellation to Tim in the next month or so. He has been very helpful in giving me advice in what to look for.
Isn't that the guy on ebay that sells all the mutts and omega s With wrong locking collars for the crystals?
I don't know anything about that. Do you have more details? I'd hate for a guy, who's livelihood is working on/selling Omegas, to be disparaged without some sort of fact.
In the past, Tim has been extremely helpful. He does sell a lot of watches and some are redialed/polished, but to the best of my recollection he is honest about condition.
I Don't mean to desparage him... I was just wondering if the same guy as he sells allot on ebay. Nice watches, he always puts gold retainer rings in stainless watches it seems to be his thing. Other than that he sells nice watches, some are redialed with over the top descriptions. He seems like he could service a watch well but I would be careful you get all your original parts back.
No worries, thanks for responding. I agree about getting the original parts back. Like Joe K said, he's pretty up front about refinished dials, replaced hands, and polished cases. He was used as a source for Omega Constellation Collectors: http://users.tpg.com.au/mondodec/movement3.pdf I would say that's a pretty good endorsement.
Yes, I'm sure he's the same guy. He's perfected a method of replating the beryllium-copper finish on Omega parts that makes some watches look newer than they are. But he is honest about what he does and how the watches are restored. Also, he gives a discount on future services when you buy the watch from him. You just need to decide if you like the "blingy" look of some of his watches. gatorcpa
I was wondering how he made the movements so shiny. I can't imagine it would affect the performance or value of an otherwise original watch. I can be completely wrong about that though.
I would not say always. A lot of times the vintage crystal is still available from Ofrei or JB, but not with the correct color. Then again ask @hoipolloi what is the correct color for a dial and you may get a difference of opinion
My experience with him was different. His description said the watch dial had its original finish and the bracelet was original. Not so. I paid a high noob tax. Now I know better.
That's discouraging. All of the watches I've looked at on his site/ebay store mention if there has been any refinishing, replaced hands, or polishing.
