Yeah, that seems excessive, even with insurance.

5 starter watches, every beginning collector used to start out with one or two of these and work their way up.

Nowadays a starter watch seems to be a 145.012 or a nice Connie pie pan and these slightly tatty Dynamics and Cosmics have been somewhat left behind.

The final price should probably average out at around 300- 350 per watch which is probably about right for this slightly unappealing lot. Sold individually they would probably get more in the current environment, but selling would take longer. Looks like someone wants a quick sale.
If you're looking to jump right in as a starter this might be too many watches in one go.
Set a budget, do your research, decide what generally visually appeals to you (era, size, type, face, colour, hands, case, bracelet, even movement), look some more, read the forum chats, take your time, and start out on your journey with one decent piece. Personally, based on what i think the final price on this lot might be, I'd be looking around for a vintage Speedmaster mark II with a racing dial...there have been quite a few reasonable deals on these lately.

I still consider myself a beginner, and the issue for me is that they are all a bit “samey”. Three day/dates; a Dynamic and four very similar Seamasters. I think this will go to someone who wants to put in a bit of work and flip them separately.
