Good to see Omega finally bumping to 5 years and matching Rolex. Regarding service, there are many opinions out there. One has to consider where they are coming from as different sources have different incentives.
Personally I just keep an eye on my watches' accuracy. I keep a record of deviations and once they start keeping time significantly worse, I'll think about service. Definitely will not service an accurate watch only because X time has elapsed and that is the "recommended service time".
As with cars and other mechanical contraptions, maintenance prolongs life, but different uses and different units mean you don't always need to overdo maintenance - plus, sometimes not touching something too early is safer than touching it, as it introduces less risk of regression and faults in something that is working perfectly (be it software or a machine).
TL;DR: Doubt I'll taking any recent quality watch to service until at least a decade has elapsed, excluding obvious faults.
