Zero sales tax in Oregon. Zero tax on zero available watches means zero savings.

It's the regular Moonwatches and Seamasters that are sad. They are priced out of reach for many new watch owners. If memory is right, in 2018, a hesalite on bracelet was about $5200, and offered a discount of 20% by different shops around the holidays (i got mine new even less). I never thought they'd go up so much so soon. But I didn't expect a lot of things.

Longines and Hamilton and Tissot also. Longines up about 8%. They are supposed to be great value for a nice build. The build is the same but they're pushing into competitors territory.

As someone previously discussed, because the companies don't want arbitrage, the prices rise across the world to offset the US price increase due to tariffs. If the tariffs drop as they are expected (due to being ruled illegal or due to a settlement), the price increases will remain. The brands could decide to lower the wholesale cost for countries outside the US, which would keep the same retail price worldwide, but that might incentivise discounts in those markets. Who knows? But these are likely here to stay and must be due to tariffs. Hopefully the brands raised the prices enough to cover the US tariffs and we won't see another rise for awhile.
Keep in mind that you should be able to buy a watch in another state and have it shipped to OR and avoid the sales tax.

You can do that if you have someone you trust who can take delivery of the watch and reship it to you.....Oregon, Montana, Delaware, New Hampshire and Alaska are the five states with no state sales tax. It's dishonest and illegal because you are evading taxes, but you probably won't get caught.

Omega prices have shot up over the last ten years or so. In 2014 I almost bought a new 1861 Speedmaster. £2850 in the UK and offered 12% off so £2500 GBP.

RRP on a new hesalite Speedmaster is currently £6600

At least the Speedy has a improved movement and bracelet, the Monaco Steve McQueen is now £7500 with the same selita it had from the start.

Ooof, 7500 for a Selita is a heck of an ask...

Crazy RRP but at a push you could potentially get 20% off. Surprised they haven't discontinued this one yet.

My OB would only ship to me at my home address with signature required. As I am not there during the day that's a non-starter. They won't even ship to my work address.

The summer blue dial seamaster went from $6200 to $6700. The white dial moonwatch with leather strap went from $8200 to $8700... so many of the watches increased by $500... ouch as I was thinking I need the summer blue seamaster.

Well, in VA they ask did you buy anything without paying sales tax. If so, pay it. The ask this every year.

No issue if he lives in Oregon, but he wasn't contemplating that from what I understood of his post.

No worries. I wasn't suggesting that people dodge taxes, although they could. Costco parking lot is full of Washington state license plates. My local watch shop (near me, not mine) has people flying in all the time from outside Oregon. It's not illegal to buy tax free here. What you do when you get home is on you.

No, my comment was trying to say that it doesn't do me any good to not pay sales tax if a watch like the Ed White or Snoopy is unavailable. Sour grapes on my part.

We're hoping to sell a lot of stuff to the National Guard.😁

Wow. The NTTD is $11,300.00. It's up $700, or $1,300.00 total in 5-6 months.

Glad I was able to get my White Speedmaster when they were still at $8100. Some reflections and thoughts about current pricing. World wide, generally all skilled trades are getting harder to source and have higher value, prices have risen for quality raw materials, energy, transportation and virtually everything else. I have always thought that Omega was somewhat under priced considering it's quality and step up in accuracy. The pricing, demand and yes, marketing manipulation of Rolex is interesting and complex. I think Omega was underrated and undervalued until recently considering their advancements in both quality and technology. Rolex's recently instituted "Certified Pre-owned " attempt to control the "flippers" and second market is interesting to say the least, paying thousands more for an existing, sometimes 10-15 year-old watch. I can usually buy the Omega i want (yes, I had to wait a few months for my White Speedmaster) from an AD or OB without all the arrogance and snobbery at published prices and get good service and a pleasant reception as well. All things considered, I think Omega is a good value.

Everyone on watch forums complain about pricing, but everything is going crazy not just watches. A few months ago I got a chick fil a spicy chicken deluxe with the drink changed to a frozen lemonade. Was $17.25......

I pulled the trigger on a Hesalite earlier this year when I was in Vegas. It's something I've wanted for years and it continued to be just out of reach regardless of my income. I remember when I could have gotten a used Speedmaster for $1.5k, now it wasn't worth the difference to me not to go new and get the updated movement and bracelet since used prices for an average Speedmaster were nearly the same as a new one. I'm glad I bought when I did, as I don't think I could justify it now with the price increase.

There's a jewelry store in Beaverton that will remain nameless, in which the owner hoarded Speedmasters before they lost their AD status. Rest assured, they'll probably always be sold for the current price. I didn't even bother to check pricing or availability in OR before buying mine.
