Thanks.

I did end it getting it down to $3750 USD but I guess it’s still a “noob” error. I did check the U.K. market prices and that seemed a bit lower than the typical eBay sale.

I sort of stumbled across it and didn’t do my homework clearly. Luckily my service will be a bit cheaper.

I’ll do better on the next one!

I think the only people who would consider this a good price have an ulterior motive for saying so. They are either dealers trying to pretend like this is the normal market or collectors who don't care as much about the watches as the "value" of their collection.

At 4500 usd i think it's about 2000 too much for this configuration requiring a 500 service. If you look in the last few weeks you will see 69 with Don at this price with excellent dials.

If you love the watch, then the price isn't even important. If you are thinking about the "deal" then I think you can do much better. I don't think any of the usual suspect dealers would be able to sell that watch here for 4500. That's why they'll say the price you paid was fine, in hopes they can sell one at that price to the next person.

I disagree. Considering the condition of the case and back, I think you did well.

I just hope the hour register issue is easily resolved. In my experience, on the rare occasion, it can be a pain in the ass to get it completely squared away.

I love the condition of the caseback.

Show me one you can buy

2500 is right at at the bottom of the barrel for any -69. this one has a poor dial but it is solid elsewhere and it has the original and valuable bracelet.

In today’s market watches are actually selling for more in dollar terms than 6 months ago - we can have the declining purchase power of the dollar discussion in another thread, but the point is the current Overwatch Lockdown has increased prices, not depressed them.

and look at the shear number of dibs called at 3750.

you may not like the watch, and that’s fair enough. To you it’s 2500 and I won’t criticise what it’s worth to you. However the market for this is demonstrably closer to 4000.

The bracelet was purchased separately don't forget, so £3600 was head only. Even in today's market I find that too rich given the condition of the dial.

Not hugely so, but still too much. Personally I'd rather pay more for a better dial but if I had to price this, id say £3000-3200 (3750-4000 US).

To clarify after I brought up the issues with the hour register and dial the seller accepted a refund and then a discounted sale at £3000 roughly $3750.

It does have an extract from the archive. I jumped at it because it was a 71. I had done a quick look at completed eBay sales and Chrono24 when I made the offer but didn’t have great images of the dial. I personally like a bit of patina but agree the condition was worse than I could tell and expressed that to the seller who offered to take it back.

Thanks for all of your help here I will update when it returns from Mr Freese. On another note here’s the Speedys new flat mate.

Quick update. Just got it back from Simon Freese and it's looking and running much better.

Alongside the standard service he cleaned up the dial and touched up the missing lume. We had a bit of a debate about the lume I was thinking of going with a full relume to a "better" color. He advised, "I note that changing the lume colour on vintage watches is becoming more popular and wonder if originality is going to become more important in the future, as more watches are changed. This is merely an observation but may be worth considering before a full relume is undertaken, which is irreversible."

So we opted to just fill it in the missing spots.

Funny thing is now I have acquired the slightly earlier DON Speedy so I have two 142.069's, the second one being a much more informed purchase. For now they make a good duo along with their older brother Ed.

Hello Folks-

Had a quick question on this watch. After all these months I noticed how cut off the numbers are on the bezels right side.. is this a common thing or has it been cut down or something?

From what I have seen this is not uncommon to have one slightly off center, of course others know more but I wouldnt be too concerned.
