Omega Speedy serial

Hey everyone. First post here and I’m seeking a bit of insight. Recently I purchased this 3511.50 reverse panda automatic and noticed the caseback free of any serial numbers, but the underside of the lug has the serial - dating to 1993.

I’ve read that Omega began putting serial numbers on the underside of the lug in the early 1990’s, but have never seen an early-mid 1990’s speedy auto with the serial number on the lug rather than the caseback.

The movement inside is a cal. 1155, 25j movement which I’ve read is from later years while the 17j I’ve read is in early examples.

Case reference is 175.0043

So a lot of interesting working parts in this watches story, but really hoping isn’t a mush-mash of parts.

Serial number: 54206358
Article ref: 35115000

Serial number checks out, case number is correct. This should have an 1152 inside, but given that there's wear inside the case back, someone has likely replaced the rotor, and it's possible that a rotor marked 1155 was used.

Thanks for your input Archer. The movement does read "25 JEWELS - TWENTY-FIVE - SWISS" Could just be an entire movement swap? 1993's should have the 1152 correct?

Yes, as I just told you this should have an 1152 inside.

What is the caliber number written under the balance?

After taking a very in-depth look, in very small writing there's 1152 written just on the plate below the balance wheel.

Okay, so as I said in my first post, the rotor has been replaced with one from an 1155.

Thanks so much for your clarifying and confirming, I appreciate it!

I suspect the watch was serviced in the mid late 90s and the case replaced. Omega added the serial number to the lugs in the new case in line with the practice at the time.

I say this from my own experience. I once owned a Speedmaster Professional from the 1980s that had a service in 1995 (it came with the paperwork when I bought it). They had replaced the case and it had the serial number on the lug.

I had thought of something like this as well, quite the possibility.
