Hello / Hallo everyone,

I'm Alex from Munich ! It's a pleasure to join this forum. I'm a watch addict since a decade, and also an Omega owner.
I saw an intriguing watch up for auction in France : its seems to be a rare specimen of Omega Speedsonic Alaska III watch (ST188.0002), from the 70's. The price is really low for such an historic piece !

A similar watch was sold for 162 500 CHF eight years ago, by Phillips auctions.

What do you think about it ?

Best regards 🇩🇪

I think it’s also a matter of taste. If it were a speedy pro Alaska on the other hand…

These estimates should be completely ignored

Huh, I have multi-brand versions of the ESA9210 but must admit I'd never heard of that "Alaska III" version !

I'd be very interested in whether the buyer of the 2018 example was in fact the Omega Museum, because that would explain how it went that remarkably high for an electronic watch bearing no Speedmaster markings that would not be particularly remarkable had it not been paired with that very impressive extract from the archive

Its also interesting that the seller of the recent one describes it as similar to the Alaska III prototype made for NASA but does not make the claim that it is the same, and it comes with no paperwork or extract

Thank for posting. Agree w above though price seems high. I took a deep dive into speedsonics recently. They are lovely unique movements with a small following. I have yet to see prices approach even what a similar condition regular production moon watch might fetch.
I was not aware of this auction site and enjoyed poking around. The 30% fees and 140€ shipping to the US may sharpen my use mostly to practice my French rather than buying unfortunately. I do love a true auction though
