IMG_6891.JPG IMG_6892.JPG IMG_6894.JPG IMG_6896.JPG IMG_6897.JPG IMG_6899.JPG I have an Omega Speedmaster Professional in my possession and am needing to some help with authenticating. The Serial No. is 32853214. I don't know if you can tell that from the images. There appears to be a nylon Delryn Brake and I was just wondering if this is an original part. Also, I know that sometimes watch bands are replaced so should I be concerned about the Speidel band. :cautious: Thank you so much for your patience and response. Please let me know if you need any further images or if you have questions.

Certain models utilize a ‘plastic’ brake for the chronograph runner. Watches that have exhibition casebacks almost exclusively use the metal brake, as it is more visually pleasing. Don’t panic, it’s not aftermarket.

The steel chronograph brake was replaced by a Delrin polymer brake in the 145-022-69 and 145.22-71 models onwards...

So can I assume it is safe to say that this is, in fact, an authentic Speedmaster? I feel that it is, after researching. It is not in the greatest shape cosmetically, however, I was pleased to see the works in such clean condition. On another note, it is not running well. :( As in very intermittently. Thank you.

Also, I am a bit new at this and would like to know where to find a reference for the serial #. Is there a link or a website? Again, thanks.

I would say that, from here, you have "infact an authentic speedmaster", in quite a good shape TBH! I think if you service it and replace the crystal it should look like a different beast. And when I mean service, I mean a movement service, no case polishing or dial/hand swaps... thats my opinion and I'm sure a few folks around here would also agree.

Regarding the serial, besides getting an extract of archives from omega directly, you can always try this site by a fellow OF member which is becoming very accurate, to get some extra info:

It’s a 145.022-71 with the correct dial, bezel and hands. It would have been made in 1971,1972, or 1973. As noted above ilovemyspeedmaster.com will give you at within a few months.

A new crystal and you have a stunning piece.

The dial and hands look in absolutely spectacular condition. You also have some very nice ghosting on the bezel. As above, it will be a super desirable watch with a new crystal. :)
