Omega Speedmaster Professional 1980: Brown Ring inside

Hey everyone, I recently picked up a 1980s Omega from a family member and noticed a golden/brownish ring running all the way around the inside edge of the crystal, between the glass and the dial. The dial itself looks clean and black.

What is it?
Is it fixable and should be fixed?
Or is it vintage look?

Thanks

Could that be rust or corrosion? I would have a look at the movement ASAP. Cool pickup.

looks like dirt to me. Just have it cleaned and serviced and it will likely disappear.

It either dirt or corrosion on the lip that holds the bezel/crystal in place.

I believe this is the result of the paint being worn off of the compression ring. Likely the result of someone buffing the inside of the crystal at some point. Can be replaced or repainted.

Looks like the crystal armour ring (sometimes known as a rehaut) is either missing completely or has lost its black coating. A new crystal will sort this out.

Have it serviced and enjoy the patina.

I agree, this is a discolored tension ring. It looks like brass to me, so I suspect you're right that someone cleaned it in a way that removed the plating.

Its easy enough to replace when replacing the crystal (or, pulling off another crystal) if it bothers you.
