··@SpeedyBirthYearOnce more, I've found myself in the silly position to have bought not one but two Speedmasters in short succession and whilst it pains me to choose, I have to. So, here's a great opportunity to step into the (neo) vintage Speedmaster world with lots of tritium charm.
Please find an assessment of the watch below. I have attempted to be as brutally honest as can be. Also note that I am certainly not the first owner of this watch. Hence I cannot guarantee originality of parts, although after having handled dozens of 80s and 90s Speedmasters, this one comes across as being unmolested.
Dial: The original dial (C5) with all lume plots perfectly in tact. The lume has aged to a very attractive, eggshell shade and has lost most of its luminous qualities as one would expect of a >25 yrs old piece. Dial body colour is perfectly homogeneously anthracite. The printing is perfectly intact. Any blemishes on the dial are actually on the plexi, which bears some small marks.
Hands: Original. As many early 90s Tritium Speedmaster hands, the lume is slightly cracked. If I were to have the watch serviced, I would certainly keep the hands with the watch, but as a matter of precaution have the lume stabilised from the back.
Case: Nice fat case with very sharp edges. It looks completely unmolested. Some hairline scratches but overall in very good condition. Some small scuffs, no deep scratches or dents. Caseback is in perfect order with the writing in very sharp condition.
Bezel: Original bezel (B4) in very good condition.
Movement and Serial: A trusty 861 manual wound movement with a serial in the 48280xxx range. Even though there is no extract, I am pretty sure it has been produced in late 1991. This would also match with the papers dated January 1992.
Runs and winds smoothly with all functions working properly. The watch has no known service history and is a bit fast; likely in need of a service in the near future. Screw heads look like new and the movement is clean.
Bracelet: An almost full length 1479 / 812 in very good condition. It currently fits a 16,5cm wrist circumference as it is and three more links are included in the package. The bracelet is in good condition, with barely any stretch.
Package: This watch comes with papers, confirming delivery by a Japanese retailer in January 1992. A box, which like many of this era is flaking, is included as well. Unfortunately, the manual / booklets have been lost. Note that the original seller has omitted registering the serial number on the warranty card. Given that the date matches with the serial and that the watch originates from Japan, I am convinced the papers and watch do belong together in the way they came to me. When I got it, the watch was incredibly dirty. Just the way I like to find honest pieces.
Shipped worldwide at buyers expense, although I would strongly prefer a F2F deal in the Netherlands given the value of this piece and the added benefit of meeting a fellow OF-member in person.
No returns, please ask questions and extra pictures in advance. I am not making a habit out of selling, but I do have quite some - exclusively positive - references as a seller and buyer on this forum and could share more.
References and Linkedin profile available upon request.
Price: Reduced to EUR 4300 (firm, net to me, excluding shipping)
