Hey everyone new to this forum just wanted to vent a bit. I purchased new in the box from an ad. After about a week i noticed the time was off from my other omegas. I spoke to the ad they said lets send it to omega to check. Long story short it needs a complete service, Best part it it needed to go to Omega HQ because they could not service the movement in the states. The watch was magnetized had low amplitude, has anyone else had this happen. Im assuming from shipping and going through x-rays in transit maybe. But a 10k watch and having it a week and already having to get a complete maintenance shouldnt they just replace it?

It would be helpful to know the reference no. Is this a "newer" model moonphase automatic, or an earlier, manual-wind Speedmaster? Pretty much all the modern moonphase models have Si14 balance springs, and many watches are a-magnetic to 15k Gauss...for these, being magnetized would be really weird.

I wonder if despite being “new” it’s been sat on a shelf for a long time and is the old Speedy Moon?

It sounds like you got really unlucky as that’s a relatively recent watch that should have just worked. I certainly feel your frustration.

the annoying part is the time frame. They told me 4 weeks to try and get it back to me then the watch was "missing" then a week later they were like oh its at omega and now they arent sure when it will be done its been 3 months already with expected completion of 4/30

Yikes.

I would suggest that some sort of good will gesture from either the AD or Omega would not be unreasonable.

Things going wrong with mechanical items even when new, sucks but sadly isn’t uncommon, it’s how the customer service I handled that makes all the difference.

My new Speedmaster had some very noticeable dust under the crystal that I noticed three weeks after owning. After taking it back to my AD, they sent it into Omega (stateside) and it came back 8 weeks later with a badly scratched crystal. (pictures compared when watch went out/came back and the scratch wasnt there when I dropped it off). So they sent it BACK to Omega and it came back 6 weeks later this time, with even MORE scratches on the crystal.

My AD just swapped out the watch for another one in their case. Terrible experience with Omega repair in New York (I think).

So, I feel your frustration. This was just last July for me. And I know the wait from Omega service is a LONG time at the moment.

yeah that sucks to hear and the issue is that nobody can give me a straight answer and how I sent it to service in New Jersey and then the watch ended up in Switzerland and nobody knew where it was for a while and that service is going to take six months I didn’t have this watch in my possession for more than a week

Every manufactured product will have some examples fail right off the bat. Swiss watches are pretty reliable, but sometimes one will come up snake eyes. If it was my watch and it crapped out after just one week I'd be pushing for a new one. Perhaps it is too late at this point but you should try. If it was an OB you'd probably have a better chance, an AD is less likely to go through the motions of replacing it with a fresh example.

It's like the dentist saying that they're giving you an extra travel tube of toothpaste.
