Omega Speedmaster hour hands.

Hi Guys,
I'm.new to this forum.
My father passed away and I was given his omega speed master.
It's a 1969 with case back code:
145022 -69 - ST
I've looked at other speed masters and have notice the hour hands are different, as in shorter and fatter.
It looks more like the Mark II.
My question is, is possible that the hands are service hands ?

Hi Simonspeedy, welcome to the forum.

Pictures will help us to answer your question. Hard to say much without.

They are wrong anyway so the question whether these are service hands doesn't matter.

They are the wrong hands certainly, from one of the Mk series as you thought. Another concern though is that the dial is about 10 years newer than the movement as the long S form is seen on the late 70s models like the -78. Also the printing is a lot heavier than I would normally expect so there may be something else going on there.

It is a nice looking but not very original piece. What is the movement number? It may be that the dial is right but the caseback has been swapped.

As noted. The original hands have been replaced with incorrect hands for a different reference.

Hi Padders,
Thank you for your reply.
I noticed etched in the cashback it was serviced in 1979. Is it possible they changed the dial ? My father really looked after this watch and it has many service marks.
The hands are a mystery, as none of my family can remember them being changed.
I am no Omega expert by any means and really appreciate the reply. I am just hoping my father wasn't screwed down the line on one of the services.
Next question would be should I change the hands to the original? I am in no way going to sell it that's for sure as it is so special to me.

As mentioned I am no expert, hence the question.
Thank you.

Hi,
It has been established that the hands are incorrect and the dial may be questionable. Best way to move forward now is post a pic of the movement with the serial number legible. That will then define the next steps. You may be looking for hands which the correct ones are available if you are happy with service hands or you can take the time to source some nice vintage ones.

It depends how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. If it is a 69 the bracelet is incorrect and it appears to have a nice shiny rehaut which is from older models. Change the hands and you have a nice usable watch, go down the originality path and you will have a nice watch at a greater cost.

Thank you Sir.
28428478 if I'm not mistaken.
Could this be a service replacement dial ?
I have seen a few posts mentioning that Omega used to change the dials if they weren't in mint condition or is that just heresy? Apologies for all the questions.
I absolutely love this watch, and to be honest I'm happy to leave it as it is.
I will look up now what the correct bracelet is.
Thanks again.

I just noticed there is an Omega logo in the centre of the crystal

Good news is that the movement and caseback are consistent.
