Can anyone say if Omega will exchange a Speedmaster case. hypothetically if a case is damaged to the point of needing laser weld and sent to Omega, will they laser weld or exchange the case and if so what of the serial on the lug? Came up in another group and I am just curious.

Omega don’t laser weld so exchange would be the offer. At the senders cost. Yes AFAIK they will put the serial on the new case.

They can replace the case and engrave the original serial number, if required.

I recently sent in my 6 month old 3861 because the bezel fell off. No impact or damage of any kind- the case still looked new. When I got the service slip, I saw that Omega is replacing the case under warranty.

I can confirm that Omega will add the serial number to a replacement case, even on an older watch that originally didn’t have one.

At one point I owned a 1985 Speedmaster that had been fully serviced by Omega (hands, dial, case, bezel). Have no idea why it had the case replaced, but I got it dirt cheap about 14 years ago.

it had the serial number of the movement on the case lug, which told me it was a service case.

Unrelated to the OP question, but bezelless Speedy looks so much cleaner... wonder if it can be kept like that.

Possible the case was slightly out of tolerance stopping the bezel firmly locking, hence the new case? Either way, great service by Omega.

Actually, it looks even nicer without the bezel 😁

Yes they can change it on request , re-lasering the serial number and your original case destroyed, expensive but not an issue, did it for a Japan racing speedmaster on that way .

Sorry to bump an old thread, but would anyone who’s done an exchange case for their Speedmaster in the last few years be willing to share what it cost? I contacted Omega about this for my cal. 861 Speedy, but they said they needed the watch in hand.

Also, given how many variations there are in Speedmaster cases, it would be cool to see a pic of an exchange case if anyone has one floating around. 🙂

They will charge you around 1500 chf for a case exchange , if the watch is recent ( laser serialised) they keep the old one .

It depends on why the case is exchanged. In some circumstances they will give you a very reduced price, but it depends on the situation. This is why they want the case in hand to give you a price.
