Omega Speedmaster “ Ed white”

Hoping for thoughts from people here. For some months I’ve been very happy with my Speedmaster professional. I did at the time have a hankering for the 361, but was unobtainable in my country. I did see one up close and personal recently at my AD when they had a Speedmaster display- simply stunning. I was told that Omega send the AD here ( in New Zealand) about one 361 a year, and they’re spoken for several years in advance. Out of the blue this afternoon, I got a call to say that the AD had a 361 in , and was I interested? It’s mine if I want it. I can’t keep both. What’s a chap to do? I won’t regret keeping the Speedy professional, but will I regret passing on the 361? Thanks for any thoughts. I’m quite torn.

If you are not aware the movement is called 321 don’t bother and stick with the professional. It’s an enthusiasts watch, the movement is the big price difference.

I wouldn't sell any of my 3861s to get one, but I do want one at some point in the future. I was offered one on NYE, but passed to hold out for a Snoopy. That I got February 1.

If it's the Calibre 321 'Ed White', I'd suggest getting it. 👍 But it's better if you can get one without selling your Speedy Pro.

I have the Ed White AND a Speedy Pro. They are both different from eachother and have a different vibe. IF I could only have 1 though, it would almost definitely be the Ed White. It isn't JUST the movement, it is a beautiful bezel, the more balanced looking case, and the dial is a bit nicer.

Yes, sorry, I did mean the 321. Thanks for the reply

Sorry, yes, I meant the 321. I typed the original question when I was a bit distracted. Thanks for the correction and the reply

Thank you. The AD will hold for me for 48 hrs until I get in to have a look. For me, the movement is only part of the equation. I came across a comparison that RJ from Fratello did, he explained the differences rather well. The only time I’ve seen one up close, the dial struck me as well. Do you find much difference between the bracelets?
Thanks everyone for replying / much appreciated.

Have you bought it yet?
no, will go and see it tomorrow. The dealer will hold for me- I have bought a few things from him in the past so he does look after me.

Both the 3861 and 321 bracelets are top drawer. Both very comfortable. Different designs for sure, but they wear the same for me once adjusted to my wrist. I find no need for the half link adjustment that the 3861 gives at the push of a button that everyone raves about, with the 321 it needs a toothpick. No biggie.

The 321 is double the price of a 3861, but worth it to me, to others it isn't. If you can swing the 321 by selling the 3861 I would do it. But go in and handle it in person for awhile, wind and use the chronograph, it's a superior feeling watch to me. Personal call.

Bracelets are vastly different, both amazing, but have a different 'feel'. I DO like the 3861's 'quick adjust' bracelet feature which the Ed White doesn't have (as @Evitzee mentions), but I have no problem having it be comfy.

I have been on the list for one for 14 months with a pretty extensive purchase history. Always shocked and disappointed when people are offered one off the street

It does seem it's hit and miss sometimes.....some with a solid history get no satisfaction, then a newbie walks in and is offered one in short order. I think smaller market OBs seem to have a better chance of peeling one from the mothership than high volume dealers.

I get that. But I wasn’t exactly off the street, saw one at the AD a month back ( was spoken for) and drooled all over the table. I think they’ve been kind enough to offer it to me first. And I’ve been dealing with them for many years. Always treated them with respect, and it’s been mutual. Sorry for your situation, I’d be annoyed too.

I think your point on the market size is a good one.

Try it. If you love it, get it. If not, let the next person on the list get it. Don't buy it to sell it.

No chance of that. This is sort of a grail watch for me. If I pulll the trigger, it will be a long term thing.

But that future is getting farther away unless I buy one from someone here. New price with tax will be near or over 20k US, and I'm not feeling that.
