·Hello there, I am new on this forum. Please forgive my English, as I am from Austria and no native speaker.
Backgroound story:
In 1969 my father had to change jobs and thus had to go to Switzerland for about a year. He brought my soon-to-be-mum a nice Omega Constellation as a present. As I am writing these lines this watch is being serviced by an Omega certified watchmaker.
That got me thinking. My father graduated on the technical university in 1966, and although he gave my mum a nice watch as a present he never got around to get himself a really nice watch. That got me thinking.
Last week I purchased a (IMHO) nice Omega Seamaster, ref. 165.002 for a price of ybout 500 pounds. It came with an aftermarket strap, but had an Omega clasp, maybe not from the correct period, but better than no clasp.
It also came with a certificate from the Omega Museum in Biel, that said it is an original Omega, dated Feb 1966 and was sold to Sweden in that same year.
So i thought, it would be a nice present for my father´s graduation, albeit being a bit late, as he turns 87 this June.
Then I read about a Seamaster called the "Speedmaster Companion". I noticed, that the Seamaster I bought could fit the bill. So I ask you experts for your opinion. Is this the - rarely found, as I take it - speedmaster Companion, or "just" a standard run-of-the-mill 165.002?
Thank you for your expertise.
