路... did you (also) notice that this ad refers to the moon landing being 13 years ago? So it's an '82 advertisement in spite of most of these watches having been delivered in '80 or latest end of '81. Perhaps a clue as to how slowly they sold at the time?
As the catalogs in my initial post show, it remained in the catalogs until 1987/1988. They even offered it on a strap as a lower-cost option. Most, if not all, of these watches were shipped to distributors, where they likely sat in inventory waiting for dealer orders.
It's amazing how this second-generation 1980s gold Apollo 11 Speedmaster has more mysteries, variations and stories surrounding it than the famous 1969 release.
