... did you (also) notice that this ad refers to the moon landing being 13 years ago? So it's an '82 advertisement in spite of most of these watches having been delivered in '80 or latest end of '81. Perhaps a clue as to how slowly they sold at the time?

Congrats buddy! Very happy for you.

As the catalogs in my initial post show, it remained in the catalogs until 1987/1988. They even offered it on a strap as a lower-cost option. Most, if not all, of these watches were shipped to distributors, where they likely sat in inventory waiting for dealer orders.

It's amazing how this second-generation 1980s gold Apollo 11 Speedmaster has more mysteries, variations and stories surrounding it than the famous 1969 release.

now its my turn to add some pictures of my new to me No. 094 of the very lovely BA345.0802. Thank you @watchstick_81 for this great thread, you forced me to purchase this example just a few weeks ago in Germany 😎

Your Mysteries are my Mysteries but No. 094 is pretty much in line:

1) The Dial: MK1 with "Swiss Made" underneath the minute track and a shorter S and R:

2) Production numbers... nothing to add here. Engravings are great in place 👍 In my eyes it is pretty interesting, that they added the zero to the number - they have not done this with the BA145.022 - indicates minimum a number below 1.000 equal three digits?

3) Leather strap? Not with my BA345:

I'm not sure I completely understand your thesis 😅. I think Omega already knew they were going to make 300 pieces (and maybe more if it turned out to be a huge success?!). With the BA145.022 they maybe wanted to make less than 1014 and the production was increased later? Same with the Moonshine 50th by the way.
