OMEGA Speedmaster '57 (two-counter version) - why does it not get much love? (photo heavy)

I think is way too big, especially the thickness, and not crazy on the date, but if you have big wrists, could see it working. Much prefer the 60th anniversary reissue myself.

Here again we are fooled a bit by technical data. As I mentioned - 41,5 diameter theoretically souds medium, but the watch looks big. The thickness is something I was very afraid of, but domed sapphire caseback makes it wear thinner than you would think. It's quite strange sensation, difficult to explain, but I sometimes feel my SMP300 is thicker than this '57 馃榾

It's a fine watch. I owned one briefly, and while I loved the accuracy, build quality and looks, I didn't find it as comfortable as I'd hoped -- thickness, but also balance on my wrist, even when compared to a few dive watch monsters like my Doxa 1500 and 5000, which are heavy and thick but perhaps a bit better balanced.

But it's a great piece for larger wrists, and that movement is a stunner. I'd be all over a version that came in at 41/14mm or so.
Is that a screw down crown?

Though it is a nice watch, indeed it doesn't get much love, doesn't sell and will most likely get discontinued.

My personal opinion is that with this model, Omega tried the same trick as the Seamaster 300MC - a reiteration, modernized with MC calibre and all the bells and whistles, and a vintage look (faux patina).

Whilst this strategy worked with the Seamaster, I guess it didn't work with the Speedmaster for multiple reasons: if you want the real deal, you buy a regular moonwatch. If you want a vintage looking Speedmaster, you'll probably also buy a regular moonwatch, or an FOIS or Ed White. If you want one a bit more "techy" or "modern", you go DSOTM. Without going as far as saying the 57 is an aberration - and again I find it very nice - I feel it doesn't find its place.
