Hello everyone,

I’m considering selling this Omega and would really appreciate some expert opinions first. I’m a collector, although I mainly focus on dive watches. I recently had the crystal replaced and the watch fully serviced. The bracelet was supplied by my watchmaker.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Please see the price chart here: https://speedmaster101.com/price-chart-2/

Regarding condition, your watch has the wrong bezel, the case is worn, the lume is not the most attractive, the dial has surface damage, and the hands probably deserve a closer look from someone who is intimately familiar with this reference. However, the bracelet adds significant value as you know.

I’ve been offered $12,000 for the watch - do you think that’s a fair price?

According to the chart above:
Ref Fair Good VeryGood Excellent
2998-4 5,500 10,000 18,000 29,000

2998-5 5,500 10,000 17,000 29,000

Case + Dial is enough to get it below Good to me. Based on the definition on the site of Good:
Code:
[B]Good -[/B] Complete with correct parts. It is likely the lowest condition most collectors or owners are happy with. The case and dial and bezel should be without significant damage, though there may be some wear or light marks on the case or bezel. The plots are an attractive colour not green or missing. Some minor plot damage or issues are acceptable. The bezel may have several marks but no major damage.

There would definitely be some question to me that this is even good. So I would say that $12k is a VERY good price to get for that, probably an overpay. I see much more in common with that price chart's 'fair' than I do with 'good'. So closer to $5500 than $10k.

Sounds like someone REALLY likes it. It's a very strong offer, so be careful.

The chrono hand and the leaf hands are service parts, so in addition to the wrong bezel, it will make the watch hard to sell.
If you have a real offer at $12k, you should get it!

Just be prepared for the buyer to show up here, get the same feedback, and be mad at you for charging him 2x its value 😁

Well, I guess anyone ready to throw $12k in such a watch did his homeworks beforehand, and is fully aware of these flaws 😅

12K is a very good offer for this piece. I'd sell it if I were you.
