Hi, An Omega Speedmaster 2915-3 has pop up for sale via the Timezone forum, with imho a honest description with what is original and what is not. It is priced 15000$ OBO http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=7156593&rid=0#msg_7156593 Although many elements are replacements, it looks nice to my untrained eye and I know these refs can be very tricky. I shall mention that I am not interested in buying, just to discuss it with the community. Cheers, Fibo
That bezel, if original (and it appears to be a DO90 base 1000) would be worth at least several thousand. Possibly as much as %20-30% of the asking price would be my guess. The hands are nice, even if relumed and the chrono seconds hand looks original with the wider center circle that covers most of the minutes one. Other than that, I have promised myself not to comment on 2915's because I don't know enough about them. If nothing else, this is a good example of the difference between an ok watch and a really nice watch - a fully original 2915-3 would fetch much more I would think...
Agree that with my $15K, I'd rather find a good 2998 that's all-original. Obviously a later 2998, after next week
The seller is a member here too. Serious guy, good guy. I bought my Ed White from him. I bet he regrets that today, that he sold it!
Not nice. No better way to bring bad karma to your watch.
I exchanged some technical views with the seller some time ago and I can confirm that he is an honorable and trustworthy person. The asked price is simply in line with the current market action and the timepiece is accurately described. No objections.
I think it is priced too high. The dial is the heart of the value of these older speedmasters, as evidenced by the recent fiasco eBay sales by an ex member here, where a dial was bid to over $100,000 - but I am reliably informed the dial was sold for around $19,000. Even if untrue, (which is entirely possible as I have not met anyone ready to pay over $12,000 for a 2915 dial) these dials are spectacularly rare and the watch is just a redialed watch without it. How much a case and movement? Plus of course those hands which are probably the rarest hands for speedmasters, bar none. Not $15,000 in my book - but then, add $12,000 for a dial, then it reaches $27,000. After next week, (Christies), we might all think its a bargain!
Not nice. No better way to bring bad karma to your watch.
Sorry. It reads worse than it is. He doesn't mind that I tease him, since he officially expressed his remorse over the sale a while ago on a swedish forum
