A good clear, sharp image,… taken close in & straight on…, in daylight,… without camera shake………would be enormously helpful Have you bought this already ? Are to intending to instantly ‘flip it’ ? …
It might be a watch Pictures are to bad to tell anything but the abow. When you meet the seller, take your own pictures and post them back here if you are unsure.
Thanks for looking at the photos. I will post an update next week. I mainly wanted to know if the hands looked correct or if there was anything obviously wrong.
I am working on some.crown and caseback photos as well as a closeup ofnthe dial and hands It looks like the crystal is scratched, but the crystal goes over the bezel. I need to find some better photos to confirm that Close up
Looks good depending on price. Needs crystal for sure. Hands look like they could be service, but tough to tell. I have been looking at 4.5s mysel as of late.
PM sent. Dunno how much a crystal replacement is, but as long as it runs and keeps time, it is worth every dime. Lemme know if you decide not to buy. Ha Ha
Love this model. The chrono seconds and minutes on the central pinion makes reading very easy. A couple of things to watch out for... The crystal is mineral glass, not hesalite. Scratches will not polish out with polywatch. A replacement crystal isn’t too expensive though. Take a good look at the case near the lugs — if the case has been over polished the metal gets very thin in that area. Also look at the polished bevels on the sides of the case — they should look sharp and even from side to side. They’ll look wavy if a poor polishing was done. This style case can get pretty ratty looking if you’re careless with it. Dents, dings, and scratches in the sunburst finish can get very unattractive. A quality relapping can breathe life back into it though. It’s one of the few designs that refinishing trumps patina (at least in my opinion). Mine says hi:
Okay finally met the owner and picked it up. I'll post better photos tomorrow. Question is this a Mk 4.5 or Mk5?
Weird the book say Mk V on the cover, but hand written notes inside indicate a 4.5 and give the reference for a 4.5. I need to date this Ser. 508925 However. That isn't enough numbers.
Yours is definitely a 4.5. That’s not an official name, collectors named it the 4.5 because it has the case of a Mark IV and the cal. 1045 of a Mark V. Many, if not all, cal. 1045s came with Mark V instruction manuals.
