    Hi there,

Let me introduce myself, I am a young watch enthusiastic located in Belgium who is looking for a Speedmaster.
Not to crazy about the newer models and my budget leans more to a mid 80's and 90's. The highest requirement is patina, I don't mind the dirty look. After reading several blogs and also this forum inquiring about the active sales I have stumbled upon this one. I know the bracelet isn't period correct but I actually prefer the 1171 over the newer ones.

    That's a nice lookin' speedy.

    Have you bought it yet?

Check the facts at http://speedmaster101.com/. Look for the page specific to the reference. Make sure movement number lines up, caseback stamp is correct, etc.

That watch will look great on the wrist!

The caseback would be correct for a Speedmaster dated in 98. Just the bracelet isn't

I swear I am going to start a business with fake "patina" applied to watches so I can sell them for ten times "what they're worth."

    Collectors are nuts.

You wouldn't be the first. Look at nbtimes. He has been selling sol called rare Rolex for years with so called original patina. Every watch has same 3 shades of killer patina. And he has made millions screwing people over.

Yes, in the end, having morals and a conscience far exceeds lying about the originality of a watch to make a living.

Nothing at all. Looks awesome. As long as you're not selling as original and telling buyers otherwise.

Indeed looking awesome. The reason why I am stating that, I love the look of patina but I will not overpay for a "dirty" watch.
As the movement number lines up with the case number, I have pulled the trigger on this one.

Nice catch and welcome to the Forum @WatchGoose

Patina and originality is King! This sort of thing is going on for a Long Time now...Even more in the Vintage car market ... (Booth sold by Gooding&Company)

    Original untouched 1,9m $
    image.jpeg

Restored to prestine condition 1.4m $

Bare in mind that the cost of restoring the Barnfind to make it drivable again will exceed 500k.

IMO a car like that deserves to be driven (occasionally). I don't know that I'd have gone with a 100% resto but I'd have at least had it cleaned up and put in good order mechanically. The original patina is gorgeous, though...

The bloke who does a lot of the restorations of those (and rarer like the SSK) is actually in Brisbane not far from here, even the Mercedes Museum used him in the past, he's very, very, not cheap.
