·Hi Forum Friends!
It has been a looooong time since my latest Speedy auction report, and here are a few reasons…
The Guy in the oval office continues to mess up the global economy (and everything else),
so I actually have to work harder than before, and therefore not so much time to spend on Speedyhunting.
I have also noticed that there are not so many nice and attractive Speedys that are up for auctions,
there have been some nice 70´s, but not so many older references.
People and auction houses might be holding tight on the nice ones, and waiting for better days?
BUT the most important thing is that this is going to be my 2000´s post, so I have had to hold back a bit…..😟
and trying to make this one a memorable one!
I have written this before, but once again:
This Forum is amazing, every question or doubt you have about a watch, shoot a question or look up older posts,
and you will get/find the answer!
I have stayed clear of many minefields (most of them…🤪), and learned tons and tons of stuff.
And also made new friends all over the world, and TBH, even the old grumpy crew is starting to grow on me….
But back to the topic!
I found this watch on an auction, and I immediately noticed a few details!
The dial, and the overall nice condition.
And the DIAL!🥰
My Do you like the Watchometer blew its gaskets, and I had to get more info.
I had a chat with the curator, and got more info and pictures.
And these made me more and more interested.
A little backstory here,
69´s with the serial nr 29.11and 29.60 million are those that might have a brown dial,
I bought a 29.60 million a few years ago, and that one had a slight brown tone,
but nothing like this one.
There was a similar Speedy that was up for auction in 2023, and I was the underbidder on that one.
Post about the watch:
I can still wake up in the middle of the night regretting that I did not continue with the biding…🙄
Speedys with this kind of dial very seldom come up for auctions.
I have seen a couple of fine ones sold here on the Forum, Ndgal had one a few years ago,
and Speedmaster101 have lovely pieces for sale from time to time.
Here is an interesting article about brown dials.
https://speedmaster101.com/blog/brown-dials/
And also a Youtube film, if you are impatient, scroll forward to about 18:45 min.
Both of these are from Speedmaster101, and our own @Spacefruit - thanks Mate!
OK - back to the watch….
Serial nr 2911xxxx places it in the correct batch, production March 1970 (thanks @eugeneandresson for your lovely website!!)
The dial - In my opinion, is amazing. Very nice print, it looked very clean, and the brown color changes shades/nuances and blend/fades in with the black.
The lume - they are complete, with no loss, but a bit grubby/dirty and uneven, not the most sexy…
This took some time to figure out since the crystal had lots of scratches, so I was really really hoping that I did not miss anything.
The bezel - It has the nice thin font, and the carrier ring has som dings and marks.
But it has taken a ”wack” between 80 and 90 on the carrier ring, this one should be able to be adjusted during the service (hopefully…).
The case - the brushing is very visible, and the edges are sharp and attractive,
it is a used watch, and it has some marks, scratches and dings.
The caseback - the circles are visible, and it is sharp and nice, with only a few small openingmarks.
The movement - a few watchmaker marks, and in need for a service, the gasket is totally melted,
a few screwheads have marks, and one or two scratches.
Picture of movement and inside caseback are from the auction house.
The hands have a couple small marks from a watchmaker.
The crystal is very scratched, and we will see if it could be polished during the service.
It has the old Omega logo in the center - very nice!
24 tooth crown - could be original, pushers looks very clean around the necks, maybe replacements?
So.....My verdict (before the auction, based on pictures from the auction house)?
Using the lovey price chart, I would place it between Good and Very Good (G = 5200 $ VG = 7400$).
And there is also the nice bracelet, a 1039 with 516 endlinks.
This one is stamped 3/69, a bit early for the watch, but not unheard of, so it could be original to the watch.
But the value?
The sales that I have looked at are around 10000 $ and above, and can go way up depending on the quality.
and the one that I missed out on the auction (that I linked) ended at 11300 $.
Anyway, since I liked the watch (BIG TIME), and thanks to @Davidt - do you want the Watchometer - and I do WANT IT!!!
I did not make any major Masterplans,
well..the plan was to win the biding!
😋
Auction day came - nothing that could disturb me, stocked up with coffee, nibbles, and also som booze and brewski for later…
The lot came up...

YAY!
Here are the pictures, enjoy and please do comment?
The first two pictures shows the watch before my attempt with Polywatch…
Cheers!

Hi Forum People!
This weekend was a blast for us Speedy Lovers,
there where two auctions held on Saturday that I followed.
The first one had a total of six Speedy 145.022:s.
and the second one had a lot of different Speedy references.
The one that I focused on was a 145.022-69.
The pictures on the website showed a nice watch with an amazing dial, that had lovey shades of brown.
So I had to ask for more pictures, and also to get more info…
The watch is a one family owned watch and never serviced.
You can see on the gaskets that they have almost melted away.
Serial nr 29.60 mil places...
