Omega Speedmaster 145.022, 1991?

Hi all,

I recently purchased this (to my eye) gorgeous Speedmaster. I bought it from a private seller which assured me that the watch is from 1991. This is very important to me as it is my birth year and I wanted a Speedmaster from this year.

So far what I've identified:
  • Dot next to 90 is correct
  • "TACHYMÈTRE" in this font is correct
  • The 1479 bracelet with 819 endlinks matches the year

For what I'm looking for some help:
  • Does this dial seem original or rather a replacement / service one for the year? Short "S" & "r"...
  • I assume the hands have been replaced as they seem to be superluminova (not tritium as the dial)?
  • What particular case number is this one? 145.022-??

Happy to get any assistance and further information as I'm keen to learn more about this particular Speedmaster.

Thanks in advance!

It's quite difficult to confirm 1991, as extracts are pretty thin in that range. TBH, I don't know that the ilovemyspeedmaster database is very accurate for the 90s.

Does the OP want a watch that was produced/delivered in 1991 or sold in 1991? And was this specified clearly to the seller? Watches are usually sold a year or two later than the year they were produced. I would also like to know how the seller determined that the watch was delivered or sold in 1991.

Oh cool, thanks for the hint on the ilovemyspeedmaster site. If I run the serial of the movement it actually shows me September 1991. So that's good!

The seller confirmed to me that it is a 1991 production watch, which is what I wanted in the first place. As to how he determined this - according to him this was some information that was given by Omega directly on the phone but they didn't want to confirm in a written form.

Have someone else contact him asking for a 1992 watch and see what he says. 🤪

Congrats on your Speedmaster. What is the serial number? The watch looks correct, tough to tell from your photos about the hands.. is the lume at all yellowish and/or “crumbly?”

That bezel is correct for a 3590.50 but I think usually a bit later than 1991.

The information is out there..

I have a 3590.50 from the early 1990s, (possibly 1991) and at one point came up with the following while trying to pinpoint its age. Photo of the watch below.

Serial: 48,291,003 produced July 20, 1993 according to Davidoff Brothers listing
Serial: 48,284,448 produced April 1, 1992 according to Extract of Archives
Serial: 48,279,965 sold 1992 according to papers
Serial: 48,275,501 produced June 5, 1991 according to Davidoff Brothers
Serial: 48,270,254 produced 1991 according to Davidoff Brothers
Serial: 48,266,959 produced 1991 according to Davidoff Brothers

Though extracts are thin for the 90s, I do think that the Ilovemyspeedmaster.com date estimate would be valid. It uses interpolation so as long as there were a few near data points it should still work, up to a point. Eugene did post a list of numbers of extracts per era on here at one point, I'll see if I can find it and check the early 90s.

I've looked and can't see the thread I was thinking of, maybe if he is about, @eugeneandresson could comment on how accurate the process would be for the early 90s

ps the reverse search for 1991 gives a likely serial of roughly 48.265-48.270

This aligns with the extracts I was able to dig up... 1991 up to about 48.275....

Thank you so much all for the information! Very interesting to read and learn more about the watch. Love it.

Mine has the serial 48277649. So might actually be 1991, but could also lean into 1992 I assume then. Thinking of calling up Omega myself as the seller did to see whether I get the same information on the phone. If I do, will keep you posted!
