Omega Speedmaster 105.012-66 CB... What’s Up?

First I appreciate all the help.

When I bought this Speedmaster I had never heard of CB or HF cases. I just knew I wanted a cal 321 with rich patina and in original condition, i.e. having correct crown, bezel insert, dial and hands.

I’ve now since discovered, as you all know, that there were two distinct cases manufactured for this year, 1967.

My case back is marked CB, however, the case no longer shows the facets on top of the lugs.
I’ve searched the forum trying to find an example of a polished CB case, but, so far, no luck.

In your opinion, is this a polished CB case or something else? If not a CB case is it worth sourcing a CB case? Appreciate all replies and thanks again.

Looking at the lower left lug, it's possible the facets were polished away.

I believe That feature is common to non CB cases and can be found also on current production examples.

I see the line in the photo that suggests a polished lower left CB lug, but don’t see it on the other three lugs.

Hard to tell without having it in hand, and maybe side by side with CB and HF cases.

Yeah, it is hard to say with that lighting and that single camera angle.

Looking at that particular lug holding the watch in my hand, I can’t detect any remnant of a facet. The back of the case does have wider feet at end of lugs then most HF cases... but I’m no expert.

I believe that the side profile of the CB case is also slightly different, and I'm sure there are a least a few people on the forum that can tell.

Mr. G A on the Facebook Forum Vintage Speedmasters posted:
“Did you know there are two styles of a mid CB case ?”

This is a HF Caseband, you don't need to search for facet remains on this one, it never had them. The back of the lugs is different on a CB. For reference.

That’s definitely not a polished CB case.

the sides of the case are too thick (CB sides facets are much thinner). Furthermore, the facets on the underside of the lugs tips are larger on CB cases.

Two old threads on the subject of polished CB cases and case profiles:
https://omegaforums.net/threads/speedy-105-012-66-centrale-boîtes-case.29876/page-2
https://omegaforums.net/threads/hf-case-vs-cb-case-correction-regarding-caseband.82561/page-2
In the second, more recent thread @Walrus posted two of his CB cases with facets but with different mid case profiles (thick and thinner, one of each). So maybe the thickness of the sides would not be a definite tell. MWO also seem to imply that CB cases came with both profiles.

As to the underside of the lugs, the consensus seems indeed to be that the cut-off flat surface is larger with CB cases. I couldn't say whether the OP watch falls into that category or not. Bad quality photo.

The OPs pictures clearly show the facets under the lugs are too small for a CB case.

regarding the size, I’ll defer to the experts at MWO but will say that every CB case I’ve seen has had the slim side profile. Apart from in MWO I’ve never seen one with the wide side profile that hasn’t been questionable.
