While I am sure it's difficult to post a thread like this, it provides a valuable lesson and information to the community. You are to be commended for doing so. I am sure PayPal will support your case, especially looking at his claim regarding "pick-up" with no substantiated communication around it, and the fact that you are in a different country. You may also want to talk with your credit card company and find out what protection you may have via them? Perhaps the ability to dispute the charge via fraud?? Good luck and I hope this all resolves in your favor.
Thank you for the kind words. I'll try PayPal before resorting to a credit card chargeback. I try my best to educate this great forum of ours, even if I look silly in the process of doing so...

Kudos to you sir for reminding us all that this can happen. My heart sunk as a read this and see quite honestly the tunnel vision that happens. You doing everything you can to help the situation and deal with someone you think is language challenged but it gets deeper and deeper. Reminds me of my own situation a few months ago where seller suddenly got language challenged. Did the analysis of further cost/benefit of dealing with seller I now believed to be unwilling to make good, and feigning poor communication. Fortunately seller never responded to PayPal complaint so judged in my favor. Basically it was a Chinese seller faking being in USA. More and more common now.

Good luck

Coincidentally, SgWatchBaron, you are on 321 posts at the time you mention this. I'd say the universe is on your side, I certainly am.

Good luck!

Ps. If you paid by card can't you just get a reversal from Visa/MasterCard?

I'm angry on your behalf simply reading through the exchange you posted!

Unfortunate that such people exist - I try and think the best of people and I'm saddened when others do the same and get burned.

FWIW: Best results come from my Discover Card. They're located in the US and their Customer Service reps speak English 😀

"Declare value $200" ……?

Careful……I do so hope you were not attempting to avoid lawful, & legitimate import duty……?

The 'Moral Compass Police' will have marked your card now…

Seriously, I hope you nail the Bastard, & retrieve your investment swiftly……Good luck !

I honestly dumbed down my English just to get the deal over and done with. He must have been laughing all the way to the bank!

I think the 321 post saved me, as well as your well wishes! PayPal said he shot himself in the foot for claiming that I teleported from Singapore to Chile and picked up the watch from him. As a pickup voids any seller protection. Watch has to be shipped via courier in order to enjoy seller protection. So roughly around 3 days before the funds will be returned to me.

Oh golly. It was late, almost 5am where I am located at. An honest mistake, luckily the deal did not go thru else I would be morally compromised. Appreciate the kind wishes! Funds should be back with me within 72 hours. Thank you!

$3500.00 for a 105.012-64??? 😒

That should have been enough to run away. In the end you recovered and that's what counts. Not sure you'll get much sympathy for knowingly stepping into it. Lesson learned I guess.

Cheers,

Thanks for sharing. I encountered a similar case few years ago on eBay, unluckily my credit card that was linked to PayPal took care of that. I hope you will get your money back soon.
