Well it is true I don't have a good tract record following though on "this is my last purchase", "this is my last purchase until I sell an existing watch", or "this is the last purchase for this year", etc.
But on a serious note, I have really been thinking about what I want out of a watch collection and after 3.5 years of collecting I think I am finally starting to figure it out (at least for now). And as I figure it out, I discovered a few things that I have to account for when deciding what I want in a collection.
First off, there are a few items I need to state up front to help with the context of what I want in a watch collection.
1. I truly did not appreciate the cost to maintain these watches. Or how hard it is to find a GREAT watchmaker.
2. I can only wear so many watches at one time. I have two dress watches and I dress up once or twice a year. So no need for a large collection.
3. With more watches, I buy way more watch accessories than are needed. This leads to more clutter and more cost.
Basically what I am saying above is that maintenance and accessories are costly and I can only wear one watch at a time, so do I really need 20+ watches? I think the magic number for me is 10.
So back to my collection... I want each and every watch to be a pleasure to wear. I want to take several minutes to decide what watch I am going to wear each day. I want to stare at the dial/watch in amazement each time I wear it. Basically I only want watches in my collection that I truly admire.
As far as my last watch purchase, well I still do think if I can find a 105.003 in very nice condition it will be my last purchase. I am pretty comfortable with my collection and really think this is the one remaining watch to complete my collection.
At this point, no private messages with offers to sell a 105.003.
